“Excellent location, clean and expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2010

Good hotel - excellent location. Close to the centre but still not too close to the action. We had a deluxe-room which was nice but quite small. This is the kind of hotel where al lot of things costs money. 24h internet - approx 24 Euro. Breakfast approx 20Euro. The restaurant seemed nice but expensive. Maybe we were out place - most of the other quests seemed to be 50+.

This is a hotel we would recommend depending how much you are paying for it. The night-rate if not using a booking site is 400Euro/night (we paid 160). Good but not great. Great location. A place where you sleep and not much more. ( and we slept quite bad since the bed was waaay to soft)

We intended to stay here two nights, however after an awful first night we decided to check-out early and stay elsewhere. Hotels website terribly misrepresents the conditions at this hotel. We checked in at the late evening and were offered an upgraded club room, which was more of a hinderance than help. Our room was located in an adjacent tower-requiring us to take multiple elevators and a lengthy corridor to reach the room. Walls and doors at this property are paper thin, after returning from a late night out we faced hallway noise throughout the night and didn't get any sleep. Security and front desk did not follow-up on our complaints. We discovered by reading the in-room services directory that the property was converted from a Ramada Inn. The only thing this hotel has going for it is the breakfast which was fantastic. Next time I'm in Amsterdam I'll be staying at Hotel Pulitzer.

This visit to the Renaissance I stayed on the "Executive/Club Level" Rooms in the 900 series. I recieved a room on the top (attic) floor . The SPACIOUS room featured an outside view through floor to ceiling windows (which opened). The angled ceilings caused me to repeatedly hit my head which allowed me to improvise a story for my co workers about a late night run in with some non existant female mugger. The INTERNET Connection was as fast as advertised and easy to use. The Lounge offered free snacks in the evening, a continental breakfast in the morning and newspapers. The lounge also provided a lot of room to socialise with many sitting areas. It could be considered an extension of your hotel room. The lobby by the way features a striking fireplace. the gas fueled fire is a conversation piece. My room Service meal was delivered quickly and the order was accurately filled. One night I came back late to the hotel, very hungry after a full day of work. The Bar Tender at the Koepelcafe persuaded the Chef in the kitchen to prepare a meal for me. Very thoughtful and appreciated. The front desk staff made checking in/out a pleasure. All my early wake up calls were delivered by a real person! The wake up calls were accurate and necessary because the bed provided me with a terrfic night's sleep. No problem with noise or any element of my 100% Wonderful stay.

My family of 3 stayed at this hotel prior to our cruise (Gay Pride weekend) and post cruise (Operation Sail). Needless to say, the hotel was very busy. I made my reservation through Priceline which made a major mistake with our accomodation request. It took a while but the evening manager, Ms. Marieke went out of her way to help our family out. The hotel was sold out and she turned a near nightmare situation into a very positive outcome. As far as the room goes, it was very modern, super clean and large enough for our family. European hotel rooms are generally on the small side and our rooms on both our stays were just fine. We were on the 4th floor and the 7th floor and noise was never an issue. The hotel is on the bus line (no transfer needed) to reach the Van Gogh Museum & Rjksmuseum. It is a 10 minute walk to the Central Rail Station and to the Canal Tour rides. There were a few Red District windows about 1 block away. I gave the hotel 4 stars because I thought the breakfast was very expensive, especially for families. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Overall a good hotel. Location excellent, was able to walk from train station with our bags.
Check-in efficient thanks to Ramon. Room was modern with all facilities and the bed was excellent but note you do have to turn turn sideways to get round it! Could do with smaller or less furniture so that you could manoeuvre more easily. Went to breakfast on our last morning but be warned..25euro for full "American breakfast" which is everything and it is good but my god they know what to charge. Continental is 19.50 and that doesnt even include cereal, it is the in-between option of 22 euro! Did have an enjoyable stay though and would probably stay here again.

We stayed for 2 nights in this hotel during Sail 2010, the world's biggest sail event. The hotel is newly refurbished and is situated close to the Central Amsterdam station and close to nightlife, shopping and cultural spots. I really enjoyed the breakfast that was inclusive in the price of the room, as there was lots of choice on pastries, eggs, cheese,.. As anyone can imagine, you are in the middle of the action, so at night this hotel wasn't really the quietest choice. If you have the choice, take a room on a high floor to avoid the noise from the street.

Rooms are MUCH smaller than advertised. I have a walk in closet at home that is bigger than our "Deluxe" room. Thank God I didn't get a standard. Stayed a night pre and post cruise, two people with total of three suitcases. Barely fit both of us and suitcases! Hotel is a long 15 minutes walk from Central Station. Longer if you have a few suitcases. And it's not a straight shot. Hard to find if you're unfamiliar with the city. Front desk and "concierge" (a bellhop behind the desk) were not knowledgeable. All directions were "two canals over and 10 minute walk". There are plenty of choices in Amsterdam, try another one!
