I've never been in Amsterdam before, so spend countless hours looking at a map in order to decide which part to stay in. Well, turns out Amsterdam is so small you can walk almost anywhere within the city centre. The location of this hotel was great for us as it is in close proximity of the central station. It's very central yet very quiet. At check in I was handed vouchers for two complimentary drinks at the bar - that was such a nice touch. The young man at reception was in training and did a great job. We arrived separately and both had the same attentive experience. Whereas the check in was brilliant, ordering a drink at the bar wasn't. But aside from that our stay at this hotel was great. The bed was comfy, the room as you would expect form this chain and I would stay again.

Very convenient to the Central Station (you can walk to the hotel without any issues), close to restaurants, attractions, tram lines. Rooms are fine, very clean. Staff is excellent and very helpful. I would definitely recommend this property.

My wife and I had an impromptu and unexpected stay at the excellent Renaissance in Amsterdam at the start of a recent Viking River Cruise across Europe.
We were due to join our river cruise vessel in Amsterdam prior to commencing a two week trip to Budapest only to discover upon our arrival at Schiphol airport that, due to a strike by German Lock keepers, it was stranded somewhere down the Rhine and we would be unable to join it until the following day.
All credit to Viking, who acted with great speed and efficiency to accommodate 182 passengers in top quality hotels for the day and night until we were reunited with our boat.
In total we were at the Renaissance for just under 24 hours, during which we were provided a very pleasant complimentary lunch followed by a substantial dinner and breakfast the following morning.
The hotel itself is smart. sophisticated and consists of an interesting blend of old and new buildings merging into each other. Most importantly it is ideally placed for the sights of Amsterdam.
Despite not having visited Amsterdam before, we were able to navigate easily and quickly to the old town (and red light district) and to Anne Franks House which we had been keen to visit.
I couldn't comment on the hotels value for money, as we did not have to foot the bill but we found both our bedroom and the public rooms spacious and very comfortable. The only negative I can think of is that, being a large hotel and depending on where your room is, you may find that you have a rather long walk through lengthy hotel corridors to reach the only lifts back down to the reception/restaurants.
In our limited dealing with the staff, we found them very friendly, efficient and helpful.
We had only a short stay at the Renaissance before we commenced what turned out to be a fantastic river cruise, but I believe we saw enough of the hotel to recommend it to anyone looking for a top class hotel in Amsterdam.

The hotel is located just near the Central Station, but in a quiet place. Within walking distance from many attractions and close to tram lines that take you all over the city. The rooms are very nice equipped and with space. The stuff is very friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast menu and a nice small restaurant for lunch.

I stayed at the Renaissance for 3 nights in June along with my wife and year old son and must say, I was quite impressed with almost all aspects of this hotel. The location is excellent, situated in the heart of Amsterdam within walking distance of the main train station. While the rooms are a bit small but that's true of most hotels in Europe and frankly you won't be short of space or in any way be constrained. The breakfast in the restaurant is excellent and they have a nice little lounge as well where you can get drinks and snacks almost 24X7. Additionally, the service is excellent and the staff often go out of their way to help and are quite friendly and efficient. All in all, I must say that the hotel is one of the reasons why we look back to our Amsterdam trip very fondly. It's a premium hotel but the money is worth it given the service and location.

We're a family of 4 ( 2 adults, one 4 year old, and 1 ten month old)---we stayed here for 3 nights/4 days. I'm a platinum member at Marriott, which probably aided tremendously in service and room quality, along with free wife and breakfasts.
Our room was spacious enough to fit a baby crib, and 2 adults/1 child. The beds were luxuriously soft, the views were good (not canal view, but street view), rooms came equipped with a fridge and plenty of amenities. We had free Wifi and club membership (buffet breakfast, afternoon tea, 6am-midnight coffee/soda/tea/water, evening drinks), which definately were helpful---especially the breakfast and wifi.

The location is central. Minutes from Centraal station, in the heart of the city. The staff service was prompt and courteous.

Positives:
1) if you're a rewards member, you'll see the extra benefits in breakfast, club room, and better room quality. If not---doesn't matter---breakfast is easily available right outside for a fraction of the hotel cost.
2) Staff service is great---regardless if you're a rewards member or not. They were tremendously helpful in everything----from train information, cabs, room service, places to eat, etc.
3) Location, location, location

Some tips
1) some areas of the hotel may not face the street, but another building with a dumpster in the bottom. Request this not be your room.
2) The older part of the building doesn't have elevators---consider this if you're booking there.
3) the hotel gets taken over by cruise ship passengers. Not really any issues whatsoever--but, it'll slow down your check-in/check-out process. So---stay patient.
4) Wifi isn't free unless you're a rewards member. This can be problematic if you need to stay connected. You might want to instead go to the nearby cafes that offer free wifi (unsecure though)

Lovely Hotel in the centre of Amsterdam and close to all that Amsterdam has to offer. Clean, helpful staff and lovely rooms. I was travelling on my own and did a web search and found a great price of approx £300 for my three night stay, including breakfast (which was fantastic) on arrival I noticed the rack rate for my room was 499 euro per night!! And that didn't include breakfast!! A great hotel although I do find it strange that they charge for WiFi - I will certainly be back....

Room Tip: I was in room 964 which was classed as a deluxe single! Blimey it was almost the size of my flat
