“Great customer service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2012

The hotel staff made our stay a pleasant experience. The recommendations for restaurants, service in the executive lounge, and prompt attention to a broken window latch in our room are just some of the positive interactions we had with the staff during our 4-night stay.

We just returned from a stay at the Renaissance. We were very pleased with this hotel. The customer service was outstanding from check in to advice on restaurants and activities. The room was up to the Marriott standards, clean, not very large but luxurious. The executive lounge had a nice selection of cold foods for breakfast and in the evenings opened for a few snacks and drinks. 1 block away was a wonderful Italian restaurant (Savini) and we also enjoyed the Dutch restaurant (Van Speyk) right down the street. Would stay here again on our next visit. We also loved the convenience of the short walk from central station to the hotel and the location for sightseeing. In addition to the usual sites in Amsterdam we really enjoyed the Maritime museum (ScheepVaartmuseum) that has recently reopened after extensive renovation. Some high tech interactive exhibits have been added as well as updating the rest of the museum.

I stayed in this hotel for 1 night for business. It was like many other large chain hotels where once you have stayed in one you have pretty much stayed in them all. The rooms were quiet, nice decor and importantly clean. The location is very central and the beds were very comfortable.
The main reason for my review is that I was outraged at the price they charged for wifi. It was €19 for 24 hours (or over €6 for just 1 hour)...I paid €177 for the room on a room only basis and could not believe that they would charge for internet access as they place themselves as a business hotel...and not only did they charge... they completely over charged.
I stayed in another 3* hotel whilst on the same business trip, the Westcord Amsterdam Arts hotel, which was about 10mins drive from the city and wifi was free (room was €90 B&B in this hotel)!
So my rating of 3 is mainly based on the internet rip off as opposed to any major complaint with the physicallity of the hotel.

Very comfortable and quiet. Concierge helped us with finding wonderful Indonesian food. They were able to give us clear directions everywhere we wanted to go. I loved the location. Close to the train station but on a quiet block. Beautiful, clean, and well appointed bathroom. Great experience.

Room Tip: We were facing into a courtyard so it was very quiet. I did not hear any complaints from fellow trav...

We spent 2 nights at the Renaissance and wished we could have spent many more. In addition to the location being perfect for walking to practically all available attractions, the hotel and rooms are clean and extremely comfortable. No need for additional transportation to and from the airport as access via the train is very easy and you are within minutes walking distance to the hotel. Staff is extremely helpful and eager to assist you with a map and finding your way around Amsterdam..........Which is wonderful!! Our only disappointment was that there was no free wi-fi available in the rooms and the charge seemed rather high for this day and age, although there is free wi-fi across the street at a delightful cafe where you can enjoy a coffee and receive the password. We had a delightful experience and absolutely loved Amsterdam...........We will return and the Renaissance will most likely get our business again.

Trip to Amsterdam for my brother in laws birthday. Hotel lovely what you would expect from a five star hotel. Room clean and tidy. I had a great nights sleep in the queen size bed. There was a bathrobe and slippers which actually fitted. I have had these items before in other hotels to fit one size only they were not my size or my husbands so I don't know who they would have fitted. I would recommend if you book to include club lounge service where for an extra charge you get all drinks inc beers and food for free.

Checking in took way too long. The staff only had 1-2 computers working because they we "updating their system" (in the middle of the day- at checkin time). It was raining and they didnt have umbrellas. The room smelled like someone had been sitting in there eating curry and not showering for a few weeks. It was completely gross so I immediately informed receptionist that we could not stay there- fortunately she was able to give us another room. Despite the old ragged towels with holes in them and the clogged drain in bathroom the rooms are much more charming than the common spaces. There is no free wifi, in fact Internet access cost 20 Euros a day! even just to use it in the lobby, that's nearly 50% of room price when booked on Priceline.
Unsatisfied we checked out early (even though our stay was nonrefundable) and the receptionist didn't even ask why so maybe that happens often.
Good central location.
