“Great stay at a Great Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2014

The Marriott in Amsterdam was a great hotel for a city break. Close enough (by tram or bus) to all the local tourist destinations.

The hotel itself was great. Staff were VERY helpful, and the Executive lounge provided snacks, and drinks, albeit at an extra cost.

The hotel was also very good with my daughter during breakfast. She has coeliacs, but they catered for her, making sure she had gluten free bread, and it was cooked in a gluten free environment.

Trams and buses are a minutes walk from the hotel, as well as Vondel Park (hire a bike from A-Bikes, which is also local). You are also minutes away from the Van Gough museum.

All in all, a great hotel, great staff who were very friendly and a great location. TWO THUMBS UP!

Room Tip: Tram/bus passes are available from the concierge desk. If you can afford it, upgrade to the Executiv...

The Marriott Amsterdam is a modern business like hotel with all the amenities that your are accustom with Marriott. The rooms are small but very clean. The free wi-fi is great. They have quadruple rooms, great for family vacations. The location is good, near the museums and outer canals but if you like walking it is waking distance from most tourist attractions. There are restaurants and cafes nearby for breakfast and dinner if you don't want to pay the high prices of the hotel restaurant. Overall a very good hotel to stay in Amsterdam for business or pleasure.

Stayed 2 nights prior to boarding a Rhine/Danube river cruise. Staff welcoming was very nice and efficient. If you're fortunate enough to enjoy the Executive Lounge, it is excellent! And finally, the location of this hotel is convenient for the museums, flower market and pickup point for the Hop On-Hop Off.

Spent a week at the Amsterdam Marriott in August 2014. We had booked a room for 4 people, and when we checked in, they offered to upgrade us to the "lounge level" for 110 Euros a day. Since in-room internet is itself almost 30 euros a day, and that becomes free with this, it was like more like an 80 Euro offer for breakfast, plus hors d'ouevres and cocktails in the evening. We decided it was worth trying.

We were checking in around 3.00pm, so the benefits of the lounge weren't immediately obvious: we went to walk around the city and came back at 5.30pm. It was cocktail hour and we decided to check it out.

There were no cocktails that I could see -- though I think you can order them -- but there were several bottles of good red and white wine, and about 6 -- 8 cold snacks (mini-sandwiches, rolls, crackers and cheese, cut vegetables, etc) laid out, plus two hot dishes (meat balls and a veggie pizza). The lounge was pretty full, with some business types there drinking wine and having important looking discussions, plus many families seemingly making a dinner out of the snacks.

Since even soda and water can be expensive in restaurants, we looked in the fridges and picked up some bottles of beer (for us) and ginger ale (for the kids) and had a tapas-style meal of small plates. This works perfectly with kids who haven't seem some of these dishes before and want to try them out before committing to eat them.

At 7.30pm, they clear away the appetizers and bring in the desserts, which are usually plates of small pastries, macaroons and cakes, plus a bowl of cut fruits. So, quite a good deal overall, and we hadn't even had the breakfast yet.

The next morning, being jetlagged, we were up early and the ability to have breakfast at 6.00am was a life saver for us. Breakfast in the lounge is better than average and we were able to have a hearty breakfast before setting out to explore the city.

The location of the hotel couldn't be better: it is a less than 5 minute walk to Vondelspark, the Museumplein and close to a bunch of good restaurants and the tram/bus stops.

Walking around for hours can eventually tire anybody, let alone us, so we often found ourselves back in the hotel around 5.00pm. The lobby would invariably be full of people trying to catch up on email (the lobby has free wifi) -- so it was nice that we had wifi access in our rooms as well. The lounge has soda, coffee, fruits and crackers available throughout the day, so we would go in and talk on the couches in the lounge (our room only had two queen beds, no couches).

To sum up: the hotel is expensive, but the location is terrific. The room by itself is ordinary, but good by European standards, and the lounge access makes up for some of the short comings of the hotel. As value for money, I don't know if they offer it at different rates at different times of the year, or if it is based on the number of people in the room, but for families, it is definitely well worth it.

Room Tip: Get a higher floor room facing the park.

My family and I spent 2 nights in the Marriott.

The hotel's location is great, service was great, the best we have experienced in the Netherlands, room was clean, the baby cot was in a very good shape, and overall, we have only good things to say about this hotel.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Amsterdam.

We were greeted warmly by the reception staff and our room was made available sooner than was expected. We were allocated a room on the 7th floor facing the city- great view.
Our room was large and airy. Everything we needed was available ( robes and slippers needed to be requested). The beds were very comfortable and the room ( including the bathroom) was very clean.
We ate one night in the hotel , it was very good and the staff extremely obliging. Opposite the hotel is a pancake house which I frequented too often - not only for their very filling pancakes but their fresh mint tea.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a central , clean comfortable hotel.

Room Tip: Choose a room from level 5 upwards facing the city for a good view.
