Stayed in the Marriott last weekend with 5 friends to celebrate my 30th birthday.
Check-in was quite slow and i'm not sure if the young lady was new but seemed a bit overwhelmed with the 6 of us and couldn't get the fact we had ordered 3 rooms in this order:
1x Adult - Double Room
2x Adult - Twin Room
3x Adult - Triple Room
After signalling someone who seemed senior, it was understood that Lastminute.com had not passed on the correct information. In fact the Marriott did not have the facility to have a triple room. This was sorted with 2 double beds in a larger room (we're all sisters) so 2 slept together. We did ask if we could have a single bed put in the room but apparently was not big enough.
To our surprise we were told that we the hotel required 75 euros per room per night, as a holding fee. As well as 5.5% city tax. The 150 euros could have been a problem, if we only brought enough cash for 2 nights, as this was not mentioned on booking.
Nevertheless, once inside the rooms were clean and spacious. My room was over looking the main road however the noise from traffic was easily rectified by closing the large windows. Mini bar prices were a little expensive as expected but 4 euros for water was a bit wow!
The rest of the staff was very friendly and helpful, calling cabs when required, general city advice, room service for dental and sewing equipment was used a few times. A bit disappointed with the sauna as it was extremely small (back garden size) and could only fit 2 people in. Although it states 24 hours we decided to use at 6am to find it was all switched off.
Apart from the very close to amenities, museums, coffee shops and clubs. On our first night we went to a club called Jimmy Woo, which from approaching were being very selective of who they let in. We had no problems though and the staff were great. 15 euro to enter and drinks were reasonable - 120 euro for a bottle of Grey Goose. They played House, RnB and HipHop and has 2 floors. We didn't book a table but the staff had no problem with letting us use one we had our many drinks on.
All in all a good birthday in Amsterdam. Check out Wok to Walk (cheap food) for day, Red light (just for looking!), Ann Franks House, Jimmy Woo and Escape for clubbing, Marriott for perfect accommodation.
