“Fab 30th Birthday”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2014

Stayed in the Marriott last weekend with 5 friends to celebrate my 30th birthday.

Check-in was quite slow and i'm not sure if the young lady was new but seemed a bit overwhelmed with the 6 of us and couldn't get the fact we had ordered 3 rooms in this order:

1x Adult - Double Room
2x Adult - Twin Room
3x Adult - Triple Room

After signalling someone who seemed senior, it was understood that Lastminute.com had not passed on the correct information. In fact the Marriott did not have the facility to have a triple room. This was sorted with 2 double beds in a larger room (we're all sisters) so 2 slept together. We did ask if we could have a single bed put in the room but apparently was not big enough.

To our surprise we were told that we the hotel required 75 euros per room per night, as a holding fee. As well as 5.5% city tax. The 150 euros could have been a problem, if we only brought enough cash for 2 nights, as this was not mentioned on booking.

Nevertheless, once inside the rooms were clean and spacious. My room was over looking the main road however the noise from traffic was easily rectified by closing the large windows. Mini bar prices were a little expensive as expected but 4 euros for water was a bit wow!

The rest of the staff was very friendly and helpful, calling cabs when required, general city advice, room service for dental and sewing equipment was used a few times. A bit disappointed with the sauna as it was extremely small (back garden size) and could only fit 2 people in. Although it states 24 hours we decided to use at 6am to find it was all switched off.

Apart from the very close to amenities, museums, coffee shops and clubs. On our first night we went to a club called Jimmy Woo, which from approaching were being very selective of who they let in. We had no problems though and the staff were great. 15 euro to enter and drinks were reasonable - 120 euro for a bottle of Grey Goose. They played House, RnB and HipHop and has 2 floors. We didn't book a table but the staff had no problem with letting us use one we had our many drinks on.

All in all a good birthday in Amsterdam. Check out Wok to Walk (cheap food) for day, Red light (just for looking!), Ann Franks House, Jimmy Woo and Escape for clubbing, Marriott for perfect accommodation.

We were overbooked and the Doubletree transfered our reservation to the Marriott. Joost Benvends in customer service at the Marriott was excellent. He recognized us as gold members with Mariott and immediately smooth over our disappointment of being overbooked at the Doubletree. He took time and gave us a map to see where we were in Amsterdam. We had a three night reservation at the Doubletree and cancelled the last 2 nights and continued our stay at the Marriott. Joost help during this check in period got our vacation back on track in Amsterdam and we had a wonderful three days

Stayed here last weekend for a family break and was generally very impressed. The quality of the hotel and friendly reception staff are fantastic and helpful.
I do agree with others that the 150 euro charge to a credit card upon arrival is strange and off putting as is the information that you have city tax to pay when you leave but no indication of how much this will be.
We had a very disappointing experience when we had been out for a lovely meal in a nearby restaurant and returned to the hotel bar for a drink. We arrived and one of my party went to the bar only to be told to sit down and someone would come and take the order. After 10 minutes no one had come so we went to the bar again only to be sent away again. Another 5 minutes later we returned to the bar and insisted we would wait so our order was taken and I sat and waited while the drinks were made. When complete I paid and went to take the drinks away only to be told the waitress would bring them over. I went and sat down only to spend 5 mins looking at my drinks from a distance and no one coming close to bringing them over. In the end a member of my party went over and took them from the bar, to be given a dirty look by the staff. As part of my order I asked for some nibbles to be brought to the table, we asked 3 times for these and are still waiting. Not the quality I expect and definitely put a downer on the night, as did the constant darkening and brightening of the lights for some unknown reason.
The room was very pleasant and on the surface very posh. Small details let it down such as rips right across the top of the shower curtain, little things but they add up to an overall impression. The view from our window was nice as it viewed the street but this also meant people talking, cars revving and music could be heard throughout the night.
As the title suggests generally a very nice and enjoyable stay, just small details let it down.

Clean lovely hotel in a great location!!! Room amenities are great, the staff is very helpful and friendly. You can walk to the Rijks Museum, Ann Frank House, Van Gogh Museum and many other places. The area is very much alive. I would definitely recommend this hotel. There is so much to explore in the area.

I was excited when an arrangement has been made to stay in Marriott hotel for a meeting. But I was unpleasantly surprised when I enter the room. The bathroom was not cleaned at all - everything around the sink was dirty, with soap reminiscences and cut beard, the broken glass was left over, dirty towels and floor forced me not to use the shower. Despite my complain in the lobby, nothing happened. Nobody was concerned and polite. I tried not to use the bathroom at all. However, the bed and the rest of the room was comfortable.

Easy 30 minute bus ride to airport. It's a direct ride on bus #197 even for a early departure, we caught a 5:03am bus on a Sunday morning. Excellent location close to canals, park, museums & shops. Hotel staff was friendly and offered great advice. They have bikes for 20 euro a day but we found a cheaper option within a 5 minute walk for 10 euro. Beds were very comfortable and road noise was minimal. We were in room 123 and had free internet using the lobby wifi connection, with was very good

Room Tip: Room 123 offered free internet access using the lobby connection.

I enjoyed a lovely 3 night stay in this property and all of my expectations were met!

The check in was quick and the staff were very friendly. Im not sure exactly of his name but he was sure to give us a map and point out the best places for young people as I was travelling with three of my friends and we are all 20 years old.

The breakfast was more than you would expect from a Marriott. Although we had missed breakfast on the first day, it was definitely made up for the next three days. With lots of choice ranging from pastries to every thing you need to enjoy a full english breakfast. The staff always made sure you had something to drink and if you needed anything else you could just ask. There was a young gentleman, whose name i have forgotten, who went and got a map for us and pointed out things he would recommend and that he has experienced himself. We were very happy with this as we were not sure exactly where to go as it was our first time to the city.
There was another lady in the breakfast area who was super helpful! I am extremely bad with names! (If you are looking for a bit more privacy whilst eating, have a look right at the back as there are lots of extra seats but you cant really see them from the entrance!)

The room, where to start? This was probably what helped me enjoy my stay even more. First of all you will notice at the front of the hotel not all rooms have balconies, there are only a few, however i was given a room on the 10th floor of the building with a balcony facing towards the city centre! The views at both day and night were beautiful. The beds were very big and comfortable, we were in a double room with two beds, and there was more than enough space for all four people. The bathroom had two parts, the first part being the mirror and basin then a door which led to the toilet, bath and shower. (This was handy as being four people, others could use the bath whilst others were using the mirror etc). The wardrobes had enough space for all of us and there was also a safe. We had a very nice mini bar with everything that you may need whilst your staying in a hotel and the prices are not too high either! The balcony was very big with enough space for four people to stand and we had a table with two chairs which was good.

There was also a fitness centre and a cigar room but did not use these! There is a small little gfit shop which is useful if you leave your souvenirs to last minute lol however the opening times were a little strange, it seems to close between 12 and 4. With check out being 12, would it not be better for it to be open then as people may be more tempted to buy something when there leaving? Just a little suggestion :)

Overall a very good hotel! Staff in all parts of hotel were extremely attentive and friendly, nothing to fault! (Maybe some milk cartons in the room to make a full english breakfast tea?)
