We booked a Superior View overlookign the canal. The view was nice and so is the location central to everything. These both things are completely outweighed by the bad. The noise is unbearable... gangs of youths drunk chanting nightly, trams vibrating through the windows and floor, cars, bikes, people walking and talking loudly. The location is at a hub where everything is happening... I think only backpackers could sleep soundly through this. The reception staff are not professional. They are office administrators who have no idea how to help customers. We had 10 different people in over 3 days manning the front desk but they basically just sit there, check you in and give you a map, call you a taxi and check you out, no expertise on Amsterdam or service. The restaurant which serves breakfas as well as evening meals may aswell operate outside of the hotel. There is nothing to link guests to the restaurant. The service is casual but the food was very good in the evening. The decor in the rooms is tired. The heating was not working fully and the wifi is useless. There are two hotels nearby that would suit the traveller who wants to be in the right location with the right service. Backpackers it's all yours!!

Room Tip: Request a quiet room - if there are any and a room with good wifi connection if there are any.

Really lovely hotel with nice sized rooms right in the middle of the shopping area of Amsterdam, all sights c15 min walk away. You do hear the trams but the noise is not excessive. Would absolutely recommend and will be back

Room Tip: we stayed in 202, 3 single beds, lots of space, looking over main road

I went along with my friends for a weekend in Amsterdam. The lady at check-in/ reception was very rude. We had booked 3 rooms for 6 people. However, 3 more friends joined us. When we reached hotel, we checked if it is possible to have extra beds in each room. To this, the lady refused very rudely for which she could have been very polite also. The ruined our mood.

We got one room in Hotel Marriott nearby which was a much nicer hotel and at same price.

The hotel itself is a small hotel. The lift takes eternity to reach level 5 and not more than 4 people can come in the lift. The location is nice near to lot of bars and restaurants.

Next time, will try to book a hotel in Dam area and will definitely not return to this hotel.

This small hotel is really situated in a place that is very practical for the tourists. It is In front of a canals bridge where is a Tram station (if you want to use this useful transit for the city center). The Leidseplein square is behind of hotel 2 min walk where you can find a small market and a lot of cafes, bars, coffee shops and restaurants! The Argentines Cuisine “smells” everywhere… The Museum Area is to the same direction 15 min walk. At the other side, eastern of hotel there is the flower market (5 min. walk) and walking straight you meet the Kalverstraat (maybe the biggest shopping street) going left you reach the central Dam Square (almost 20 min walk from hotel). About the hotels “running”, the place is clear, the staff is kind and our Room 503 (balcony-canal view) was big and cozy! If you leave the windows open you’ll understand that you are in noisy area. Trams and people passing are endless… until the first morning hours (The nights are crazy in Amsterdam). Breakfast was OK, more than basic, and it’s serviced at the place of Restaurant Thijs.(nice place). Note that sleepers and bathrobes are not at the hotel’s amenities. The conclusion is that Dikker Hotel is a Decent place to stay and enjoy it!
