“old fashioned opulence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

wonderfully located in the central, but quiet, area of Singel Canal, backing onto Spuistraat, undoubtedly a great part of the city to stay in.
This family run, glorious hotel reminded me of something from Agatha Christie's Orient Express, amazing service, beautiful decor, lovely fresh flowers in antique style vases everywhere, interesting paintings, quality through and through...
Would be an amazing place to stay if having a VERY special celebration;- thinking of popping the question, a special wedding aninversary, or something similar, just so discreet and opulent.
Nice touch was the iced cold complimentary supply of fresh rose water or mint teas, as well as sweets and fruit - just lovely

Room Tip: looking onto the Singel Canal is a must!

This hotel was tucked away in a quiet street, but very close to everything necessary. The staff were very friendly and happy to be of help as required. The room had a four poster bed and big enough for the two of us. The bathroom again had all we needed, the only negative is the towels were a bit rough and well used, perhaps some newer ones would be nice. Overall would return.

We stayed here for my wife,s birthday trip to Amsterdam. We booked a deluxe room with jacuzzi bath ,which was lots of fun. Staff were friendly and helpful the hotel was a very romantic setting it was clean, warm and safe. Will use this hotel again make sure you book direct with the hotel as you get free wi fi and later check out. We had a great experience at this hotel.

Stayed here recently for a long weekend. It is in a great quiet location on the Singel, but close enough to all attractions on foot. Reasonably well appointed , although the decoration is a little fussy. At 220 euro for a weekend night, in a tiny room with no view, no breakfast, it is a little insulting in this day and age to be asked to pay an additional 10 euro for w-ifi. In my view very much overpriced.

What a great hotel, all the rooms are decorated differently and gorgeous. The staff can not do enough for you. Their breakfasts are feasts including champagne!!! I would highly recomend it, as well as being centrally located, walking distance to Central Station, 2 streets away from the tram. Very impressed!!!

Beautiful **** Hotel on Singel Canal, family owned and only 5 minutes walk to Dam Square. My partner and me stayed here for 3 nights and were very happy with the beautiful décor and nice touches like free tea/coffee sweets and biscuits which were available all day. The toiletries were replenished every day in our superior room, there were even sweets in the room. You could get an umbrella or plastic rain mac free from reception and the staff were very friendly and efficient. The only thing we were disappointed in was the view of the courtyard, this was in fact a view to other rooms which made our room very dark needing the lights on during the day. That aside the room itself was very sumptuous the bed very comfortable and everything in the room was expensive and tasteful. We opted out of the breakfast as we thought is pricey at 18 euros.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the canal would be better

We had a beautiful (if overly ornate) room overlooking the Singel canal. Short walk to the flower market and just about 15 minutes to Central Station. Loved the quiet feel of the hotel. Staff was second-to-none. They went out of their way to be helpful and to treat each guest as a treasured member of the Hotel Estherea family. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: It was worth it to us to have a room overlooking the canal. Enjoyed sitting and looking out--people...
