My wife and I stayed t Hotel Estheria for two nights in January 2013. Aside from two minor complaints, we thought it was just right for us. The location is easy walking distance from many restaurants and about a 10 minute walk from the Old Town area. 15 or 20 minutes' walk will get you to the train station or the Rejksmuseum.

The hotel itself is beautifully appointed. The room was spotlessly clean, very comfortably appointed and very attractive. It was very quiet too, even though it faced a somewhat buy street. The staff was extremely friendly nd helpful in all matters with which we needed help. Excellent staff.

The two complaints? Wi fi access is ten Euro per day, per device. I haven't paid for wi fi access at a hotel in any country for years. They did give me one free 24 usage for one device, but the server was so slow it was almost unusable. I don't like to be nickel and dimed for Wifi service. And I like it to work when I use it.

Complaint two, the towels seemed thin and skimpy.

That's it. Aside from those two things, we loved the hotel and would certainly return.

The perfect location for my perfect city. Clean hotel with friendly staff. Nice touch to have free coffee/tea and biscuits at reception. Comfortable public areas and rooms provide all you need. I would suggest paying for the best room you can as they only get better the more you pay. Would stay again and definitely recommend this hotel, and I'm a really fussy customer!

Had the pleasure of spending 3 nights here the beginning of January. There is a reason Conde Nast Traveler magazine named The Hotel Esthérea one of the 10 best hotels in Northern Europe. It felt like a home away from home. Only this home was a palace. The service, breakfasts, rooms, lounges, fish aquarium, all were better than imagined. I would definitely return here.

We stayed in this hotel at 30.12 und 31.12.2012 and we are not enthousiastic about it. Its a centra hotel in Amsterdam with nice lobby but these are the only good points the hotel can get. Its an old building, with tiny bathrooms and as we found out rooms are totally different in size. We arrived in Amsterdam late in the afternoon and although we booked a month earlier we got the smallest room in the building, with a door at the wall, seperating our room from the room next to us. We could hear every word coming from our neighbours . And it goes on...toilette war seperate from the bathroom in a small room(HOLE) with Urinstain at the toiletteseat, in the white bedsheets were a lot of dark hair and yellow stains.. We asked the reception if that was the room that we booked(300 euros per night by the way..) and if we could get an other room, something that it was not possible. We asked for clean sheets, that we had to change(there is only one percon in the evening for the whole hotel). The next day after complaining, they gave us another room, with blick to the kanal, which was bigger(bathroom although always small) and they offer us 50% Discount for the first night. Strange that the room the second night costed 400 euro...! As we left we saw other customers choosing rooms after seeing them..so the ones coming early get the bigger rooms, it seems they all cost the same(!!) I assume that all hotels so central are old, but a prober Renovation would be not a bad idea. Also Cleanliness is supposed the first to wait in a 4star hotel...

Dear guest,

We are sorry to hear that your stay was not up to your desired standards, even after we have taken proper measures by giving you a free upgrade and discount, just to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The price you paid for the second night was indeed higher then normally as it was New Year’s Eve, than what you have paid for the first night. Again, we apologize for not being able to make your stay memorable as we always try do for our guests at Hotel Estherea.

With kind regards,

Esther Peper-Esselaar

Excellent hotel. Spacious and luxuriously decorated relaxation areas and beautiful rooms. Very friendly service and great location, close to shops, cares, restaurants and tram stops. The breakfast is superb. Will definitely return!

I stayed here whilst in Amsterdam on business and have stayed in the city many times before.
This hotel is very comfortable and cosy with a real quirky feel about the place in terms of decor both in the public areas and my room which I really liked. I don't really like the big chain hotels and this is a very pleasant alternative.
My room was a good size and the bathroom was good with a good shower.
Breakfast was extensive and covered something for everyone with the scrambled eggs being perfectly cooked.

The staff were friendly and efficient so all in all a really good hotel in a great location.

We went there at the beginning of this year and I must say; "what a lovely Hotel"! Great atmosphere, beautiful decorated rooms, lounges, breakfast room and lobby; actually everything was soo nice! Staff was very friendly and breakfast was a choice of lots of yummy things. Looking out the window gives you a lovely view of the canal and the Hotel is located very central to visit and see so many things in Amsterdam. What stood out was how clean everything was. We would highly recommend this Hotel and would like to go back there in the future.
