We stayed at Hotel Estherea in June (my husband, myself and 2 teenagers). We had 2 rooms that were adjoining so we could open the door and have one "suite". The hotel is stunning although the rooms are quite small, nice tub and separate shower.
They offer coffee, naturally flavoured water and small goodies in the lobby, any time of the day. The bottled water in the rooms is complimentary. The staff were friendly and helpful with all of our questions and requests.
The location is great..right across from the canal, walking distance to Anne Frank (10min), Van Gogh and other museums (25min) and Central Station (15min). I found the area quite noisy during the night, but Amsterdam is a lively city. Perhaps the canal side is quieter.
If you are coming by car, you may have difficulty locating the parking garage...it is unmarked and on a street behind the hotel. We went to the hotel lobby and one of the staff accompanied my husband to the garage.

My fiance and I stayed at Hotel Estherea for 2 nights last week. It is situated at the heart of the city, a very short walk away from the Royal Palace and Dam Square as well as De Bijenkorf shopping mall. It is also within walking distance to the Anne Frank House and other attractions. The only downside was the loud drilling noises during the day. Plenty of restaurants around and overall we had a pleasant stay!

Stayed here in November 2010. It was a great quaint little hotel. The hotel was beautiful and in a great location. Right outside the door you have the city center and a main canal. Lots of restaurants are nearby. The canal view rooms are comfortable and beautiful. Ours had a big window that opened to the road and canal and a four poster bed. Definitely would stay here again.

Room Tip: Pick one facing the canal, great people/boat watching

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Estherea. The room was nicely decorated and comfortable. We did not get a canal view but found our view of the street in back of the hotel interesting to watch. All of the staff we met were helpful and courteous and we received good restaurant recommendations from the desk staff. We did pay in advance for the breakfast as we like the convenience of a hotel breakfast. While expensive, the breakfast did not disappoint as there was an extensive, delicious selection. We would happily return to this hotel.

We were lucky to have an upgrade to a canal view room which was perfectly charming. The rooms were very spacious and the bed extremely comfortable. The bathrooms were very large and well appointed. We loved this hotel and would definitely stay here again when next in Amsterdam. The location is very central, very near to Damm Square but just far enought away not to be too noisy and busy. Many good restaurants nearby, spoiled for choice. The street, Single str is quaint with those wonderful Amsterdam houses all along. The view of the canal was great, we were enchanted by the coming and goings of the canal, even had a white swan just swiming by. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel, great ambiance, walking distance to many of the attractions, even the flower market is along the other end of the street.
Not the cheapest option but as usual in life, "you get what you pay for".

Room Tip: Choose one of the canal view rooms.

Hotel Estherea is really lovely. It's not too big and not too small with incredibly helpful, friendly service. Everyone we asked for help came through plus some. The decor is charming, and our room (canal front) boasted a full wall of big windows. With curtains open, we could sit an enjoy the canal and goings on below. With windows closed, all noise, light, etc, was gone and we slept like babies in the big comfie bed. It does have air conditioning, which is a pleasant bonus. Great location, but beware of all the touristy stuff in Amsterdam. We opted for a big bike ride from Amsterdam to Hoorn and really appreciated the country that way. We recently stayed 1 night at The Hotel Estherea prior to a River Cruise.
It is a lovely hotel, beautifully decorated, on the Singel Canal.
As has been said before, the location is perfect, an easy walk to major points of interest but far enough to be away from the crowds.
The staff were all freindly, helpful and spoke excellent English
The room was very small, but one has to keep in mind this is a 17th century canal house in Amsterdam.
Enjoyed the complementary coffee but did not have breakfast at the hotel as we thought it was a bit on the expensive side.
Lots of restaurants close by.
Pedastrians need to be very alert and aware of all vehicles including bicycles!
If ever we are in Amsterdam again, we would stay here.
