We stayed at the hotel for three nights mid week. Our superior rooms were on the ground floor but we were rarely disturbed by noise outside. Our rooms were spacious, well equipped and spotless. The bathrooms were large and had obviously been recently redecorated. The breakfasts were adequate but at times there did not appear to be enough staff on duty as frequently the tables were not cleared and food not replenished. This was also not helped with the dining room being quite small. The staff were friendly, courteous and polite. They could not be faulted in any way. The location of the hotel is excellent for the museum area and within a ten minute walk, numerous bars, restaurants and cafes can be found.
I would without doubt stay at this hotel again.

Before visiting Amsterdam, I sought the advice of an American friend who also maintains a residence in Amsterdam. Familiar with the city and its hotels, his advice was simply this: stay at the Bilderberg Jan Luyken; it is situated in the best location and provides the best value. We could not have been more pleased! The staff was efficient and enormously helpful; the breakfast was stellar; the superior room size was more than adequate; the location on a quiet street was perfect and within a few minutes walk of the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Concertgebouw; the tram stopped roughly a block away to whisk us away to central Amsterdam or Amsterdam Central without a transfer; and numerous restaurants were within a five minute walk. I will mention two negatives that have become fairly common for this class hotel: additional charges for Wi-fi and breakfast. Given what I consider a very reasonable price for this hotel, we gladly paid the additional tariff.

We wanted a comfortable hotel near the museum district, and were directed to the Bilderberg Hotel Jan Luyken. The room was typical for European hotels, but the included breakfast buffet was excellent and the desk staff was exceptionally helpful in providing tickets and information for our explorations. The hotel is literally around the corner from the Van Gogh Museum and the Museumplein, and also very near upscale shopping and restaurants. We would definitely stay there again and seek out other hotels in this chain.

We had booked two "superior" rooms based on the great reviews in Tripadvisor to arrive and discover that my superior room was nothing but a cramped tiny room. The room had a desk, two arm chairs and two single beds put together as a "double bed". I felt so claustrophobic that I had trouble falling sleep at night. I would have rather got rid of the arm chairs, which we pushed against the wall, and leave some room to breathe. The bathroom was also pretty small. No room around the sink to leave make up, tooth paste and others. BTW my sister's superior room was actually a pretty nice size room facing a side street, with a decent size bathroom. Her room had other "nice to have" accessories like bathrobes, and slippers, which were not found in my room.

In addition you have to pay for WiFi (although the website says that superior room has free internet), and the use of the lobby computer.

On the positive side the hotel is nicely located in a shopping area close to the Van Gogh Museum and Rijks Museum, and less than five minutes walk to a bus stop.

This hotel is perfectly situated near the Rijks Museum and the Stedelijk Museum. The area is also a shopper's paradise. Also located near the Vonderpark - perfect for a Sunday walk. Our "superior double"room was on the top floor - higher than the tree tops which made it bright and airy (although wouldn't have liked a smaller room) It was clean and comfortable, but I think the lower floors nearer the street could be a bit noisy. The breakfast was quite expensive at 24EUROS per person - not really worth that! Front of house staff were polite and courteous. We found a lovely restaurant called Cafe Odette worth a try! All in all situated in a lovely area and a good base for that part of the city.

Room Tip: Top floors and request superior double

The Jan Luyken is in an excellent spot for visiting Amsterdam. Very close to bus stops that will get you to and from the airport for 4 Euro! The Museumplein has a terrific selection of the museums you will want to visit in Amsterdam and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. I did not have the opportunity to try the breakfast at the hotel but a friend of mine did and said it was lovely. I spent 4 nights there in July and enjoyed my stay immensely!

Room Tip: I had a double room with wifi. It was quiet and a good size.

This small hotel is located in the right spot. Steps from the Rijks Museum and Stedelijk Museum and the Van Gogh Museum and fine shops and the tram system. A few more steps and you will be in Leidesplein a town square overflowing with people, shops and pubs (and trams) and the Blue Boat Canal tour. The hotel room was small and the bathroom was small with only the basics. The hotel staff was real helpful and courteous. For some reason the desk clerks don't advise you what services they have to offer such as museum tickets and transit passes and lots more (why keep it a secret?...less work perhaps.) The breakfast (for a fee) is more than acceptable in a lovely dining room with eggs, bacon, tea, coffee and lots of choices for bread and croissants, cheeses, salmon.(lots more)..ask if you don't see it. The breakfast crew was terrific. The only draw at this hotel back was a fee for WIFI. But wifi is available in all of pubs and restaurants and museums. The bus to the airport for $4 Euros is around the corner (Bus #197.)
