Certificate of Excellence

I read many of the reviews here before making plans to stay at this hotel and I just completed a 5 night stay. I can't agree with any of the negative comments I have read and I was thoroughly impressed with this hotel which is located in a great neighborhood and yet convenient to everything, just a nice walk or tram ride away. The hotel is not in the city center, and that is to its advantage. From the outset I should state that I am a Hilton Diamond member and I realize that affords a level of benefits which were excellent.

However for those thinking about this hotel (or any other hotel) one most consider the overall property, the staff, the rooms, the ambiance, the location and the neighborhood and the context of the hotel within the city of Amsterdam. On all those counts this is a wonderful property and a great place to stay.

The hotel is located a short tram ride or about a 20 minute walk to the museums and Amsterdam is a very walkable city and we enjoyed both the trams and the walk. The hotel is also a very short distance from a wonderful park- Vondelpark - and you can also rent bicycles from the hotel which is also fun, and you feel like a native. The park is less that a 5 minute bike ride and it's a great opportunity to explore another side of the city.

As for the hotel, the service was excellent, staff was helpful, the restaurant for breakfast was amazing (free for diamond members) as was the executive lounge. Our room on the eighth floor was spacious and had a wonderful view. We found out you can buy transit cards (for the tram) in the gift shop which was very helpful.

What we liked best about this hotel was its location which is in a very nice and quiet residential area. It's a short walk to the trams which can take you anywhere, but Amsterdam is a very walkable city and it's a nice walk to the Museumplein if you decide to do that. There is also a small park right across from the hotel, but my recommendation is make it to Vondelpark on foot or preferably by bicycle.

Just a tip which might be helpful, for those arriving or departing by train the Schiphol Airport train station might be a better option than Centraal Station.

Stayed for a conference. It was neat and clean, nice staff. But it's in the middle of a residential neighborhood, close to very little. As a result, nowhere to get a quick bite. Breakfast buffet was meh. Oh, and they disregarded my food allergy and poisoned me.

Hilton is the name, yet I noticed that in different countries the level of service in their hotels is not exactly the same. After my staying in Hilton Amsterdam I may declare with certainty that this was the best Hilton I've ever seen, moreover there I met probably the best staff ever. I'd like to thank the team for making my staying comfortable, special thanks to all the concierges who always gave me directions I needed and many helpful recomendations on enjoying my free time in the city. Rooms and breakfast fulfilled the expectations I got from the room rates. Especially I liked nice toiletries (they even offered a bath tablet) and big tv in the room. But I should rain on my own parade a bit too. Dear Hilton management, if you are reading this, please consider providing free wifi in the rooms. It's more than ridiculous to chage for wifi in the room, and your 25€ is more than a day-light robbery. One day I got connected from iPad and then from telephone and was charged twice that day. Please think about my suggestion as I' be happy to stay in Hilton Amsterdam once again one day.

Don't accept,to get the room 427!! It is close to the staff room and very noisy even during the night. I stayed for 3 nights and couldn't sleep at all.
The staff is overall very kind except one woman at the breakfast room who considered that 10 am was too late ( the service closes at 10.30)

Of all our European vacations, this hotel standa out as one of the best.

Service was superlative, and exceeded all expectations. Everyone went out of their way to be helpful. we got great directions and advice from the concierge (even a local laundry to wash clothes). You can buy transit cards in the gift shop (with great advice on how to use them). The turndown service was great and refreshing. The staff in the executive lounge was helpful and food great and constantly refreshed. They even cashed $400/day euro traveler checks when many other hotels balk.

The 9th floor room was phenonmenal, spacious and clean, with views of the adjacent canal. The shower/bath was good pressure, beds firm, and bottled water in the room.

The location is two short blocks from the 16 tram (Emmastraat station) and in a quiet residential (non-touristy) area - which we really appreciate) yet walkable to Museumplein (Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum). Lots of small local restaurants nearby. They have bicycles you can reserve to get around. There is a small park across the street with tulips aplenty.

I can't say enough good things about this hotel if you are an American.

Hilton Amsterdam is not located in the center. It take about 20-30minutes to get to the center by tram. However in case of Amsterdam we were glad for the hotel being out of the center as the center is quite noisy and did not seem to be really enjoyable to spend a night there. So we were glad it was a bit away.
Somehow this Hilton did not meet my expectations. I am still not sure why, nothing was wrong, the room is quite nice with large window and we had a view over the canal. Nice.
The executive lounge is located at the top floor. It would be lovely with nice view, if it was not so narrow. It was really narrow and for some strange reason it was not possible to go or sit on the outside terrace, which would be amazing. Also the snacks and drinks selection is nothing much, perhaps again because ofvery limited space there. Surprisingly it was not crowded, although tiny there were very few people.
The price for food in the bar was totally ridiculous. I can not see why it was priced so high comparing to other major European cities and not even being in the center.
The parking is sky high too, 35Euro per night for leaving car on open spce in front of the hotel on the open sun, not even covered garage. Again not being in the center the price seems to be strangely high.
The breakfast was average Hilton, the real highlight was the pancake server by one of the chefs, very good and really nicely served.
Have not had time to checkout the gym and spa, but it seems to be bigger fitness so it should be good.
Strangely I was not charge full price when I had prepaid rate so there was small confusin over the bill.
I would recomment this Hilton for its location, however perhaps there can be found hotels with better value in the surrounding area.

This was a very comfortable stay, and the breakfast was excellent, with a choice of practically anything you asked for. The terrace outside was stunning overlooking the canal, unfortunately too cold for us to sit out! This hotel is probably about a 10/15 minute bus ride from the city centre, but at least where it is, was quiet. The views from our room over the city were great.
