I visited St James Gate three days out of four on my recent trip to Amsterdam with my mother - I always make a point of never eating in the same place twice on a trip but the hospitality and the food was so spot on that I had to break my rule (had lamb curry twice - hot but lush!). Mother is a fussy eater so the hearty options on the menu suited her traditional British palate and went down a treat!
The staff were welcoming, efficient, polite and they had the right balance between attentive and unobtrusive. Thank you staff - you were lovely!
The outdoor seating area is well placed for people watching on Rembrandtplein and the bar/restaurant has a really nice ambience that draws people to it.
Lager was nice and didn't taste watered down unlike that in some other bars on the square!
Altogether a really pleasant place for a drink and a bite to eat.
