“Very Central Location”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

Stayed here in room 517 which is the top room in the eaves in the photo. Great location for everything however it was a noisy at night. In fairness this was because we had the windows open due to the heat and also it was bank holiday weekend so was busy with rowdy groups who were NOT hotel guests but were noisy down in the street as they walked past No fault of the hotels and didn't really bother us as we could lie in.

The room was by modern and very clean. We stayed in the 4 star room.

There are no drawers so we hung out clothes on the hatstand which is covered in hangars for this purpose and rest stayed in case. I would recommend this hotel if you have tons of luggage.

We loved this hotel but would ask for a quiet non Damrak facing room next time if it was summer and needed windows open.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room not facing Damrak if going when warm

Our 3rd time in Amsterdam and this is the hotel we will return to. Amazing location, very clean, comfortable bed & bedding and friendly & helpful staff. We stayed in a 2 star room which was fine! Daily maid service still and fresh towels daily. Only negative is no storage in our room at all apart from 5 coat hangers on a wall. Also no hot drink making facilities, they did put a kettle in our room on my request but no mugs etc. overall tho, I would highly recommend.

The room smelled of fresh paint.
Breakfast not included. The table service is not working well, the waiter always forgets something. From the website it looked like a fairy tale of contemporary art but in fact the reality is' another.

I booked a 4 star room at 190 euro/night excluding breakfast
room is on Damrak-side --> single glass make you feel as if you feel on the street --> loud drunken tourists at night and when they go sleep the tram is back

good quality bedding

super location

friendly reception and easy check-in

Room Tip: request a room at the back, if in front forget the sleep!

Despite having a standard room, we were very happy indeed with the Hotel the Exchange. It's very central location means that there is a lot of noise from the hustle and bustle of a big city (which I do not mind at all, although some may). The hotel is exceptionally clean - my most important criteria when at a hotel - and although my room was basic, it was very comfortable. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly and would see to your needs. All in all, I would, without hesitation, recommend this hotel for a city break.

Room Tip: I am usually a little worried about booking a basic standard room. Don't be.

Im the manager of an Australian Tour company and we have stayed in many hotels over the world. Hotel Exchange looked after our group over 4 nights in Amsterdam and our customers could not have been happier. From the booking stage with Bas van Rooij to the lovely receptionists Nessa, the staff were amazing.
Thank you once again! see you next year.

I have just returned from a long weekend staying at the Hotel Exchange in Amsterdam... and it was AMAZING! Before I begin my review, it is probably worth mentioning I am reviewing the hotel based on a 5* room (lots of previous reviews have varied a lot in relation to the star rating of the room).

We arrived around 10am, greeted by a lovely man on reception who had informed us we had been upgraded from a 4* to a 5* (!) I wasn’t sure what to expect as each room is different, but I needn’t have worried – the room was AMAZING! We had a room based on tudor clothing and the design was really original. The best thing about this hotel is that you will never stay anywhere like it, which I personally think makes such a difference to your holiday. We had a bathroom (no wet room as I have read in other reviews!) and a nespresso coffee machine which was a great added perk.

The location of the hotel is very central and perfect if you are new to Amsterdam. It is located on the Damrak just off of Dam Square and there are taxi ranks/tram stops very close by, although most places you can actually walk.

Recommendations: Izakaya Japanese Resteraunt – amazing food, slightly pricey but so so worth it! Heinken experience – this turned out to be so much fun, very modern tour and lots of interaction (as well as free beer!)

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for an original/quirky hotel that you won’t find anywhere else – but based on other reviews and the room I myself stayed in, I would recommend booking a 4/5 star!

Room Tip: Book a 4/5* for extra room and better bathrooms!
