Owner description: Museum Het Grachtenhuis (The Canal House) is the natural starting point for visitors to Amsterdam. It is located in one of the most beautiful canalside houses. Het Grachtenhuis introduces visitors to one of the best city development projects in the world: the 17th-century canals of Amsterdam. During your visit to the multimedia, interactive exhibition, you will travel in 40 minutes through 400 years of history.

Me and my girlfriend were absolutely amazed by the beauty of the house and the very modern way of showing the complete story of the canals. And a big thanks to the friendly staff!
Hidden secret is the very peaceful garden side!

The best exhibition I've been to yet. All done through projections and with head phones so each person can listen in their own language. Shows how the house has changed over the years and how the city was expanded!

The lower floor exhibition is all about the house and how it was built and how the Dutch funded American expansion.

The new museum is the best up to date didactic experience I ever had, no joke. It is like an adventure tour led through several rooms. I was really amazed. Highly recommended!

Always wanted to visit the Amsterdam Canals and was told you could best start at museum Het Grachtenhuis to actually get an idea about why and how the canals were formed. Didn't expect to see such a splendid, high-end, multimedia exposition. Def worthwhile - wow-moment!!

Wonderful museum showing how the city was built and developed. Particularly interesting was the room which showed how the city planners agreed how the city canals etc were to be expanded and financed. Much better than the central historical museum which has lots of temporary displays and too many school trips! (couple 50+)
