Houseboat Little Amstel
Ranked #53 of 338 Amsterdam B&B and Inns
Reviewed December 3, 2011

We stayed at Little Amstel for three nights and we were very happy with our choice. The room is small but clean and with good space for your stuff. The bed is comfortable and the shower ok. The view could be better, but its still an amazing feeling to be so close to the water. The location is perfect with really good restaurants and bars within walking distance. Great breakfast and service. If you wish to stay in a houseboat, this is a great option.

We are just home from a 4 day stay at little Amstel and it was fantastic, What a view to wake up to. Its close enough to the city, about 3 tram stops away from all of the main attractions and the public transport makes it so easy to get around. We didnt actually realise it was B & B until we got there and the backet of food was delicious. We spent the morning feeding the ducks from our bedroom window. When we return to amsterdam it will be back to the little amstel. Mirijam was fantastic too, really lovely and really helpful :) Also the beds were really really comfortable!

Staying on The Little Amstel B&B, a smartly designed and furnished house boat on the Amstel River was a unique and most enjoyable experience. Our very affordable (a bargain at 110 euros per night including a room service breakfast basket and free wifi) end unit provided us with a romantic view of the river and the picturesque surroundings including the white swans swimming up to our window every morning. The very friendly live aboard owner, Mirjam Van Elewout, has bikes and a boat available for rent.

Room Tip: Ask for the end unit

We (a freshly married couple) are in love with Amsterdam and have been visiting this beautiful city many times before. This time we decided to choose a more "advanced" place to stay - a house boat instead of a hotel. The Little Amstel BB is one of the very few house boats you can stay on as a tourist and it was such a surprise for us.

It´s just a few walking minutes away from the lively Rembrandtplein but it´s much more quiet than most mid-price city hotels. You´ll find yourself in a calm and inspiring environment. Your bed is "swimming" in the Amstel river - surprisingly without any noticeable movement. The room was rather small but nicely decorated (and designed) and fully equipped with TV, fridge, espresso maker... Two huge windows in the room capture the reflections of the river. A tiny but stylish bathroom (with absolutely sufficient space to shower even for taller people like me) is seamlessly integrated into the room by a sliding door. Both rooms are heated and although it was pretty cold outside it felt comfy and warm inside. You can also sit outside on some garden chairs to watch the sunrise in the morning or the lights of the city by night, which can hardly be found in any other hotel for this nice price. For us a (small) oasis to come home after a day of exiting exploration.

In the morning you´ll be woke up by Mirjam the (super-)friendly house keeper. Why? Because she made breakfast for you. Nothing fancy, but with warm rolls, müsli, marmelade, orange juice, cheese... we liked it.

We are so proud that we found this place - so that we actually wanted to keep it a secret. But in the end it´s better to share. We highly recommend this nice little B&B to any couple looking for an interesting and beautiful stay in Amsterdam...

Stayed at Little Amstel for two nights with my partner - what a wonderful little spot! It's a small room, but big enough for what you need it for. The bathroom is teeny but very efficiently laid out, and the instant-on hot water is a real treat! Everything was SPOTLESSLY clean as well. Having the little table and two chairs for breakfast right by the windows was a *lovely* experience...sitting and eating the delicious (and big!) breakfast provided and watching the canal traffic go by was wonderful.

Our *only* complaint is that the room was stuffy and hard to keep cool...only the one window opens, and not by very much. We worked around the problem by keeping the front door propped wide open while we were 'home' in the room.

Overall we were VERY happy and would most definitely stay again!

Room Tip: The studio suite is cheaper and is the corner unit, so you get two windows...the better choice in my...

Managed to book 2 nights here for me and my partners trip to Amsterdam, wish we could have booked more but it was all fully booked unfortunately.
The room wasn't big but wasn't any need for something bigger, you had your bed, a not so small bathroom with your own toilet and shower, a table with two chairs. The view over the Amstel was good to wake up to. There was also a good Wifi internet provided by Mirjam that worked fast without any problems whatsoever.
The furniture and the design of the room was excellent, it showed that they had put some thought to it. And the bed were really good ones.
The breakfast, provided by Mirjam in a basket each morning, was really good. You could choose around what time you wanted it "delivered" and it was full of bread, yoghurt, cereals, cheese, salami, eggs and everything you'd need for breakfast. Also a plus in general for Mirjam, being helpful with tips and serviceminded.

The only small minus would be that the mini-fridge in the room wasn't the best one but it's hard finding mini-fridges that cools enough and still dont sound like an airplane. But at least it was okay, things got cold after a while and it didn't sound too much.
Also the location isn't the most central one but it was quiet and close to Albert Kuyp market, restaurants, supermarkets and so on. Just not the most central accommodation in town but if you are looking for that you should probably find a hostel. If you don't mind walking around a bit then this isn't a problem.

In general I'd defintly recommend this place, especially if you want to wake up to the sound of waves hitting the boat.
