I've been to this place countless times before. Both while on business and with friends. Situated in the heart of the city, it's easy to get to, right next to alot of average cafe's and bars at Rembrandts Plein. Their most popular item on the menu is their ribs. For a good reason!
This place has a very compact kitchen, plus a cramped bar. It is not the biggest of places at all, so be sure to order a table in advance. It's size also give it it's charm. Very cozy with nice sofa arrangements near the bar.
The kitchen size can sometimes at peakhours mean a bit of a wait, but it is all worth it! Americans are known for ribs, and they say they have the best very often. In my opinion they don't. A guy from Virginia and one from NYC, once told me I should never have ribs anywhere else; coming from two americans, I gave it at try. Now I never miss it when i'm in Amsterdam.
The tendency with ribs are, that no one can agree on how sweet & smoked the BBQ sauce on it should be. Their sauce doesn't get nausea-sweet, and not too smokey either. The taste and texture of the meat itself, is as good as I've ever had it for ribs.
Their whole menu is a delight of various types of meat and very guy-like foods. Their Ribeye ain't bad either! Served on wooden "plates", it only enhances the experience further. Having said the menu is mostly for guys, they do have stuff that women will love as well. Great salads among the items as well. Good selection of wines and beer. Usually calm music ranging mostly in jazz, softrock, soul and a bit of disco. No annoying top 40 hits here. Much appreciated!
I had a de-tour this weekend where I went from Schipol Airport to Ams Centraal to go eat the ribs, and after that to Den Bosch. As always, worth the detour! Prices are very fair for the atmosphere and service provided. Not to be avoided!
