We loved this museum and we got to make etchings that really added to the experience. We did this first before we went to the Rijksmuseum and I think it truly added to our appreciation of Rembrandt's masterpieces.

The rooms Rembrandt lived in were interesting. Some of the etching displays were a little dull, but compensated for by the excellent demonstration given with a succinct but comprehensive overview of Rembrandt's style and techniques.

While you can see some of Remrandt's work in the Rijksmuseum, this museum is much nicer and also has a lot of his art. During part of his life, Rembrandt was very popular and successful. Rich people all wanted their picture painted by him, so the money was rolling in. He used this money as the down payment on this very beautiful house, which is now fully restored to the way it was when he lived there. The walls are covered with his art.

Upstairs is his studio, where you can see how he mixed paints and worked.

If you go, be sure to go to the desk where you get the headphones so you can take the audio tour of the house. It is full of fascinating information about the house, Rembrandt's life, his art, and how he worked. If you have time for only one museum in Amsterdam, I would suggest this one.

It was ok, not to write home about it, but glad I went.
No Rembrandt's paintings, just one. Not detailed enough, but gives you an idea of his living and working quarters.

Great museum, in particular the demonstration on etching which was enlightening and supported the display of etchings there
