“Leaving Cocomama is like leaving home...”
Reviewed March 20, 2012

Amsterdam was the first stop of our mini Euro trip. Stayed here for 4 nights (29 euro per night for quad room). I started to wonder why I feel 'homesick' on my next hostel stay in Barcelona, only to realize that my previous stay in Cocomama feels so much like home...

My three friends and I were welcomed by one of the staff, Heloisa (she's awesome!). She showed us around the house and even shared us everything on Amsterdam. The living room is the heart of Cocomama - everything from the complete kitchen facilities, dining areas, groovy music selection, books, games...oooh, and the adorable Joop the cat! I love the fact that there are no 'boarding house rules' labels written in the kitchen or common area like most hostels....Boy, I just look forward to every morning and nights so I can just lay lazy in the living room, tease that old chum Joop and listen to the heart melting music...

For 4 lovely nights, we stayed in a cute quad room with a touch of Dutch theme mural painting on the wall. Though the room and bathroom are small (that's Amsterdam to you), I couldn't complain cos everything is clean (bathroom is cleaned daily), the bed is so comfy, there are enough space to put your toiletries. The pillow is probably a little too fluffed down for my likings, but its alright :)

Love Amsterdam, love everyone in Cocomama. Can't wait to be back again :)

Room Tip: The room on the 1st floor is the best since you only need to climb one stairs up :)

My friend who just came to stay with me has forced me to write this review.

She had this to say: awesome staff and facilities, extremely homely, the most ridiculous kitchen. Easy to walk into the city. Other travellers who stayed here, but had to leave because it was full, still came back to hang out at the hostel in the evening. Super comfy bed. I highly recommend it to all.

I loved staying at Cocomama. I was there for 2 nites and thought it was great. It's in an old brothel, and the building has tons of character. The staff was amazing, there was a fully stocked kitchen with beer to drink and pasta to make. They will do your laundry and have free wi-fi and computers available. There were tons of books in the common room, flat screen, lots of movies, even an old Nintendo!

The room was clean, and they provide medium sized lockers for you to use. There were also bikes for guests to rent, which I highly recommend. It's not exactly in the city center, but Amsterdam is small and it's either a 10 min walk or a 5 min tram ride (the tram is right outside the door, and will take you directly to Dam Square). It's also close to the Albert Cuyp Market, which I definitely recommend checking out, and the Heineken brewery.

A great place to stay if you're not into staying in the standard Red Light District hostel options.

Cocomama has a great atmosphere to it.The downstairs common room is really inviting and has great cooking facilities. You can pick your ingredients up from the supermarket down the road and make yourself at home!

The staff were really friendly and knowledgable - they go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The rooms were very clean and beds comfortable. They even have a cat which lives there.

However, it is a bit far from the central tourist attractions - about 15 minutes by tram. They come every 5-10 minutes though so this isn't too much of a hassle. Just be weary of when the trams stop; it'll be a long taxi ride if you stay out late to enjoy what amsterdam has to offer ;)

I stayed at Cocomama with three of my friends for four nights. The staff were so warm and welcoming and the environment of the hostel was homely. Our room , which was a four bunk bed room was extremely clean and comfortable. Perhaps the windows were a bit thin and it got cold at night, with the constant sound of traffic and trams passing by present. The down stairs area was amazing to just chill and relax as well as cook food.

The benefit of staying at Cocomama was that the staff were knowledgeable of the city and gave good tips for places to visit, bars to drink at and of course coffee shops.

Amazing experience, will defiantly be back!

Room Tip: All about the red light room!

Hello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cocomama is the place to be. If you are looking to stay in amsterdam and be in a good vibe 24h-7 go to COCOMAMA! I went in the summer with my 2 friends and it was crazy. The staff is really friendly and the matresses are fkn comfortable. Rooms are clean and the bathrooms are huge (that's important since you will have the munchies :p)

Cocomama's service is the 8th wonder of the world. The hostel is in a beautiful neighbourhood that is quiet, yet also within close proximity to supermarkets, parties, galleries, boutiques and cafes'. Their staff are amazing - they ensure your stay is most comfortable and are always willing to help (whatever it may be that you are looking for). Beds, pillows and mattresses are so comfortable that you will feel like you are sleeping in clouds, and the wash/toilet facilities work perfectly and are super clean. Leaving Cocomama was probably the most difficult part of my trip.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Cocomama offers the best of both worlds in a super central location in Amsterdam. The luxury and comfort of a hotel and the atmosphere (and budget) of a hostel. The rooms are all Holland themed and range from private doubles to 6-bed dorms (and everything in between). You might share a bathroom in some of the dorms, but those luxurious mattresses and feather duvets are everywhere. Even more importantly, at MAMA, you're not on your own. Travel stories are shared, as is the dinner table. It's a place where you'll make friends and hang out with other international trotters alike in the private garden, living room, cinema, or cook dinner in the fully-equipped kitchen (perfect to keep costs down). And if that doesn't keep you busy enough, the staff organises tons of activities, and Joop (the adorable house cat, a.k.a. man of the house), is there to get cuddled 24/7 too. ... more   less
