“Perfect small hotel in perfect area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2013

Sebastians' was perfect for what we like.......trendy,not in touristy area but beautifull and quiet, personal, very friendly staff(most professional I've come accross in a while!), not too formal, close enough to walk everywhere. Also walking distance to the Jordaan and 9 straatjes in which we spent most our time! Breakfasts are delicious! Will recommend to everyone :)

Room Tip: We stayed in room 108 which which had a view on the canal

We had a fantastic three night stay in this lovely little hotel. The most friendly staff - right across the board - that I have ever encountered in a hotel. Very clean, nicely furnished room. Bathroom was small and a little outdated but clean with agood suply of toiletries supplied. Very nice to have nespresso coffee machine in the room and good air conditioning unit. Excellent views of the lovely Keisergracht canal from our room. Nice hot and cold buffet breakfast included in the deal -served in an attractive bar/dining room. I have been to Amsterdam twice before but this hotel was in the best area in my opinion. Only five minutes walk from Centraal Station -where the boat trips and trams may be taken - near to many restaurants, yet in a very quiet and peaceful area. Would definitely stay here again if I return to Amsterdam.

Room Tip: It is worth paying for the canal view if you can.

Sebastian's Hotel is very well situated on one of the major canal boulevards in Amsterdam, near the Central station and also Dam Square. The room was small and not so clean. The staff is extremely friendly and professional. Breakfast is not included and is average quality. You have a coffee machine in the room and is all that you need in the morning... Anyway the room rate was Extremely Overpriced!

We liked this hotel from the moment we walked in the door. The decor is funky and colorful, yet still has an air of elegance. Our room was spacious and nicely furnished. The in-room Nespresso coffee machine with lots of free capsules was an unexpected treat. The bathroom was well stocked with good quality toiletries (shampoo, body wash, moisturizer, etc.) Our room didn't have a canal view, but the window view from our room in the rear of the hotel included several tall trees, which gave a serene and lush ambiance.

This hotel offers an inexpensive breakfast buffet that doesn't skimp. There were plenty of eggs, bacon, sausage, as well as a full complement of sides and fruits, plus yogurt and fresh croissants and other breads and pastries. They also offered multiple choices of beverages including juices, coffee, and teas. The kitchen staff were cheerful each morning and imparted a warmth that sticks with you even after you've left. This includes the rest of the hotel staff too.

On our first night, we didn't feel up to going out for dinner, so we ordered panini in the bar/dining room, sitting at a table overlooking a canal outdoors. The friendly bar tender prepared our sandwiches expertly and answered questions about the area.

Another plus for this hotel is its location. We were able to walk from the Central train station to the hotel with our luggage on wheels in tow. Walking along the streets of Amsterdam is a treat, even with luggage. The hotel is also walking distance to the center of town and to several nearby restaurants and places of interest.

The maid service was prompt and thorough each day. There was never an inconvenience.

I travel fairly regularly. I have stayed in hotels of every price range, size, and location. Sebastian's ranks as one of my favorites of all time for its overall quality. It's the total package. I have nothing negative to say and would highly recommend this gracious hotel.

Funky hotel in one of the nicest areas in Amsterdam.
Nice cozy room (booked a small room with canal view but the room did not feel small at all) and comfy bed. The room was on the second floor and besides the window overlooking the canal it also had a window on the roof which filled the room with sunshine.
Small bathroom but nice strong shower. Just wished there would've been some shelves in the bathorrom for toiletries and towels.
Small buffet breakfast with fruit salad, fresh yogurt, muffins, white and brown bread, eggs, bacon and sausages.
The hotel personnel was always very polite and helpful.
The area is full of nice restaurants and cafes (I highly recommend Winkel's appletaart and the steaks at restaurant Luna!).

Excellent location on a residential street/canal between central Amsterdam and Jordaan. Very walkable from Central Station. One of the most helpful and friendly staffs we have ever encountered. Breakfast not included but at 10 euro fixed price it is excellent including buffet and cooked to order.

We had one of the small double occupancy rooms on third floor. (We actually received an email from the hotel advising us that the room WAS very small, in case we wanted to upgrade.) It served us very well. But if you like to spend a lot of time in your room, eat in-room, etc. you might need a larger one.

Don't be put off by the purply/fringy/victorian/goth (0k, it's not goth but that's the best way I can describe it) decor. It's great fun! Remember, this is Amsterdam! [And check out the wall paper in the toilet off of the lower level dining room.]

Hint: For dinner, head 2 or 3 blocks west into Jordaan area for many excellent restaurants and cafes.

We will definitely stay there again.

A hotel which ticks all the boxes. We stayed in a medium canal view room with additional and the room's design was a true representation of the Amsterdam vibe. Bed and pillows were like a cloud and shower pressure was heaven. Hotel staff were extremely friendly and accommodating and breakfast was the best quality I had in all hotels on our European holiday. Location is away from the red district and train station, but only a 10 minute walk away. Five minute walk from Anne Frank's house and dozens of great restaurants around (highly recommend Vlaming Eaten & Drinken!!).

Room Tip: Choose canal view loft room.
