“Tons of space in city of little rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

great location, right on the #2 tram that runs straight through the city to all the highlights. In a very upscale neighbourhood where we were able to get frsh fruits and veggies to eat and store in our room. We had the largest room the vermeer suite and it was great. The bathroom is uber modern and a bit out of place in such a grand old building but to some I am sure a moderm chic WC is a plus.

Room Tip: We were on the top floor so it was very quiet, and the stairs may be too much for some, we appreciat...

The staff was extremely accomodating before as well as during our stay. We stayed in the Rembrandt Suite which is very spacious and elegantly decorated. It is on the street but the noise level was not a problem. Breakfast was very good. We would highly recommend staying here. Great neighborhood and close to VanGogh Museum & Rijksmuseum.

We stayed 3 nights in the Van Gogh Suite. The terrace is great, breakfast was served either in the nice breakfast room or on the terrace. Coffee and tea maker in the room. Quiet residential neighbourhood, 5 minutes walking distance from the museums, restaurants and park nearby. Will definitely go back. Not suitable for travellers unable or unwilling to climb steep stairs. Very friendly landlady.

Room Tip: Beautiful rooms in Quiet but central Location

We stayed in the Rembrand suite and, unlike previous reviewers, we did not have any noise issues. The staff is very welcoming, warm and helpful; the room, very charming. Breakfast is good value for money and we only had to share the table one day with other guests.
We were planning quite some museum visits so the location was simply perfect for us.

We stayed in the beautiful Vermeer Suite on the top floor. The location was excellent! It is an easy tram ride to museums and other places of interest, there is an abundance of good restaurants in the surrounding streets, and the extensive Vonderpark is just around the corner. Frieda was very hospitable and helpful, giving us an orientation to Amsterdam as well as the suite. The apartment was spotless, well appointed, and very comfortable, but the stairs to the third floor might be tricky for some.

Room Tip: Choose an apartment on a lower floor if you have a problem with stairs.

We stayed in the Rembrandt Room - which is very nice. It was a large a large room and also very clean - you probably could have eaten your breakfast off the floor in the room itself or the bathroom if you had ordered breakfast in the room. The service was very friendly and helpful. We arrived a bit before the earliest check-in time (2PM) but the room was ready as it happened. We could have left our bags there if had not been. The staff there were very helpful in providing printouts of restaurant suggestions.

The breakfast we very good and served in a large room on the first floor. There is only 1 large table so you have to socialize with the other guests. I personally did not find this a problem but some might - but you can always request breakfast in your room.

The one down-side with the room we stayed in (Rembrandt Room) is that there is quite a bit of road noise. It was not too horrific and I did manage to sleep OK, but it was noticeable.

I think that overall the hotel is very good, but quite expensive so overall reasonable value.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper I suggest you avoid the Rembrandt Room as it is a bit noisy. It is worth...

I will try to be fair. It was very very nice that we were allowed to check in early after flying from US. Staff was very kind and helpful. We opted to get breakfast on our own each morning. Our room (Rembrandt) was lovely and bed was extremely comfortable. Problem (and a big one at that) was the noise level, a ten on a ten scale. Our room faced the street, which though residential, is very busy with two way traffic at all hours plus a tram line as well. As if that weren't enough, two of three nights the front door bell was rung for an extended period with one episode followed by heavy banging on door at midnight when bell wasn't answered. I mentioned this at checkout. Owner's daughter told us someone is on premises 24 hrs to handle such matters. Sounds like the night watchman was sleeping. Wouldn't choose this place again. Too many other options at this fairly high price point. Walls paper thin. Could hear conversations in nearby rooms.

Dear Guest,

With this reply we would like to take the opportunity to tell you that we feel terrible sorry that you have had a bad experience in our hotel due to noise.

Even though the windows at the front of the hotel have double glass, you can hear indeed still the traffic at the street (just for other travellers information; it is a street, not a big road).

We had not yet heard complaints about this sound being disturbing, but of course this does not change anything for you!

The awful coincidence occurred that during your stay in our hotel, on top of the noise of the street you experienced, other guests had forgotten their key.
Unfortunately this guests did not call the night porter on the telephone nr. provided but rang the front door bell over and over again... waking you up.

We cannot repeat saying how sorry we are about this situation, We sincerely hope you would consider giving us another chance and would be very pleased to welcome you back as our special guests.
Please contact us by email to personally discuss there matters further.

With kind regards,
The Management
