“Very pleasant stay”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

This modern hotel is very close to Centraal Station so access is easy if you have come from the airport as I did. The check-in staff were friendly and nothing seemed too much trouble - I was even given a welcome cookie!

The room (I was on the 3rd floor facing the city), was neat and tidy and the bathroom was clean and modern. The iMac (computer and tv) was very smart indeed! I didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on the restaurant. I did venture up to the Sky Lounge (around 1am) after a night out in town and it was still buzzing! Perfect night cap (with optional boogie) if you were still keen...

Check-out was simple and once again I got the 'Amsterdam City Tax' surprise...I should have known after visiting there on numerous occasions! There is a city tax to pay on checking out (5.88 euros) which is not mentioned at check-in, so be aware.

All in all I had a very pleasant stay and would definitely recommend to friends, family and work colleagues. Thanks for a great stay! Will I be back? Most definitely!

Highly appreciate you made the effort to share your experiences on Tripadvisor. Thank you! Regarding the city tax, indeed there is a 5.5% city tax charge on the room rate, which is an obliged tax by the local municipality. Our website always shows the final rate within the booking process but the rate is the split on the invoice. It's definitely a good point to mention this not only in the reserations, but upon check in as well.

We stayed 2 nights at the Double Tree Hilton and enjoyed it thoroughly.
The hotel is very close to the central station, where you could take public transport into/ out of the city or airport.
Upon check in, we were welcomed a warm walnut chocolate cookie each. The receptionist was very polite and offer us an upgrade, which will move us to a room at the front of the hotel. In addition, we would also get complimentary breakfast and free minibar, besides some extra amenities in the room.
We took it as we learnt that rooms facing the back of the hotel are noisy.
The concierge staff was also extremely friendly. He helped us with our luggage from our car.
And when he heard that we need to return our rental car immediately, he offered to send our luggage straight to our room after check in, so we don't have to worry about it and be in our way as soon as possible.
The hotel also has a guest service counter, from which we booked our taxi to the airport and print boarding passes.

The room was wonderful and spacious. Bed and pillows were great, bathroom was on the small side but adequate. The hotel even provides a household hair dryer in the wardrobe, rather than a small hair dryer mounted on the bathroom wall usually seen in hotels. With that, I could dried on my curls with the large nozzle.oOn top of that, the iMac in the room act as a tv and computer, which we could check in online and browse the Internet. Housekeeping was done well on the next day, but the bathrobes were not replaced. However, it was sent shortly after we had made the request.

Breakfast was very extensive and of high quality. They even served Chinese rice noodles with chicken broth, which I have never seen in any European hotel so far. On the second day of breakfast, the waiter who showed us to our table even offer omelette in the kitchen ( there was no egg counter).

The only problem was that check out took us more than 15 minutes. Some guests were checking i/ out but there's only 2 receptionists at the counter. The guest in front of us had some problems with his travel documents and further delayed the whole process, while our taxi had to wait for us the whole time.

Overall, it was a wonderful stay at Double Tree Hilton.
We would stay here again if we visit Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Standard rooms are directly on top of the railways, so could be noisy till late night. Pay a littl...

Enormously grateful for your kind review. It's fantastic to read you enjoyed your stay and would like to thank you for taking the time to describe our services in so much detail. It's highly appreciated. In terms of check-out time, you are absolutely right, that should have gone quicker. We schedule our staff based upon the expected number of check-outs but some peek moments are just not to foresee. Hope to welcome you back soon!

Nothing to say about the location witch is minutes away from the central station, my room was facing the city therefore quiet , my colleague was on the 10 floor, on the railway side and she could hear the trains very well. The rooms are cold, someone came to check but they explained there is a fixed temperature for the hotel and you can only go 2 degrees up or 2 degrees down, for me it was definitely too cold. The wifi is free and the fitness is quiet good. The machines are new and it is mostly clean (but they were out of clean towels both mornings I went) The breakfast has a good selection and is worth the price. The first evening we went to the rooftop bar and they have a good selection of small food and very good cocktails, the second day the refused to let us in, it was closed for a private party, according to the duty manager they don't do private events, the reason they refuse entry is because the bar was full, this was obviously a lie as we could see that the bar was completely empty and later we saw a big group coming trough the elevator. It would be better to be honest with the guests and write/inform that you close some evenings. Except the duty manager all the staff was really friendly and helpful (Bar, Front desk, Breakfast). I am HH Gold member and out of 2 stays I was upgraded once (to a bigger room) Try to book the quiet rooms facing the city or if the noise bother you I would recommend to stay somewhere else.

Appreciate your review and you choice for DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam. Although you indicate to review your stay as mostly good I'm happy to comment on the point of improvement you rightfully share.

With regards to noise nuisance of the trains I am very pleased to inform extra measures of isolation are being installed at this very moment. The hotel has been build according to the strictest norms in sound proofing, however after delivery we indeed found several faults in the isolation on a limited number of locations in the hotel. It took a large amount of investigation and testing to find the right solution, but it should definitely be solved soon.

With regards to private events in our SkyLounge it's correct we are very reluctant to rent out the SkyLounge privately specifically to avoid experiences you have shared and as many guests actually book our hotel specifically to enjoy the SkyLounge. In this particular situation the SkyLounge was indeed reserved for a very large group of inhouse guests which actually caused the SkyLounge to be completely full. I do apologize for the unclear communication around this.

The Doubletree is a very modern business-style hotel located right by Amsterdam's rail hub. Though our stay was for the most part very positive, there were a couple negatives with this hotel.

First off the service was excellent. The check-in desk and waiters were super friendly and helpful. There was only young lady at the check-in that was particularly friendly and kind and even called us five minutes after check-in to make sure the room was okay. We wish we had gotten her name to mention her on the comment card. The rooms were also very nice and modern. While the rooms may appear a little on the small side by North American standards, they are pretty big for Europe and come with an iMac which doubles as a TV. The iMac was an invaluable tool during our stay as it allowed us to easily browse attractions, flight details, restaurant reviews etc.

Our package also included the breakfast buffet which we had for three mornings. The breakfast buffet had a pretty impressive variety of foods, however the quality was only "good" (hard waffles for example) and therefore probably not worth the price if paying separately. Overall we were however pleased with the buffet.

The biggest negative with the hotel was the noise coming from the rail lines. Although our room was 10 floors up, we backed onto the rail line coming out of Centraal Station and would hear large trains passing every couple minutes. We would imagine that staying on one of the lower floors the noise would have been unbearable.

Secondly during our stay an alarm went off at around 7 AM on February 24th. Although I realize alarms are often out of a hotel's control, the circumstances surrounding this one was a little bit of a mystery. At first we weren't sure if it was a TV program on in another room or coming from outside because the alarm was very faint and then followed by some kind of explanation that we could not hear because it was so quiet. After a few minutes of deliberating whether or not to go to the front desk in case there was a serious emergency, we left our room as the alarm stopped and we began talking to several other confused hotel guests who were also unsure what to do as they didn't hear the alarm or message properly either. Since the alarm had stopped we all went back to our rooms and went back to sleep. However we were all a little shocked that we hadn't received any explanation as to what the alarm was for and also that the alarm wasn't loud enough to be able to hear the message that followed it. After all the whole point of having an alarm is to be able hear it so the guests can react accordingly.

Apart from the noise and mysterious alarm issue the Doubletree is an excellent hotel probably worthy of a 4.5 or 5/5 rating. The staff and room quality are of very high quality and were among the best we experienced on our trip. When returning to Amsterdam I will certainly look into staying at the Doubletree again.

Room Tip: Do not take a room backing onto the rails!

Highly appreciate your recommendation and mentioning of the service of our staff.

I so apologize for the experience you had with our fire alarm. Fire alarms are not supposed to be audible over the speakers, as in case of an alarm our teams are extensively trained to handle and judge the situation. Only when there is a need for evacuation the speaker alarm will be activated, but with coordination of our teams. I'm happy to confirm that this unfortunate issue with the alarm has been solved.

With regards to the rooms on the railway side I'm also happy to confirm extra isolation measures are currently being installed.

very good hotel. nice stuff. when you come by car, you are able to use the parking outside. 30€ per first 24h your stay. every next one 20€.
especially nice when you come to Amsterdam to see the downtown. really short distance from hotel to see beautyfull old town with all of entertainment.
enough rooms, each one with wifi, there is also apple appiliance with directly access to internet so you dont have even your own computer. very clean bathroom, wide range of dishes during brakefast, good red wine afternoon give you a feeling of a good stay.
by me - for sure - to be recommended.

I booked this hotel because of the location as wanted to be in a nice hotel with a central location.

This hotel was perfect for a short break away. Me and my partner loved it here and would definitely book again. Staff were lovely at this hotel and even let us check in early. Amsterdam was freezing whilst we stayed but this hotel was lovely and warm and very nice.

As many have said the location is great for visiting the city. Literally you can walk out of the train station and be at the hotel within a couple minutes (soon thereafter to your room).

The staff were very friendly (nearly all spoke english) and helpful with all our questions. The lobby and common areas were clean and had nice chairs and areas to lounge and relax. The bar at the top (SkyLounge) was good as well and has fantastic views of the city. Good place to unwind and chill after a "hard" day of exploring the city.

While overall I like the hotel it's just too - drab. The rooms were bland and only had one generic landscape photo on the wall and the bathrooms are relatively tiny. It may have just been our room but obviously this place is geared more towards the road warrior than anything else.

Room Tip: Beware that since the train station is next door you're going to hear them most of the night. Tr...

Very much appreciate your comments and the fact you mentioned the friendliness of our team. With regards to our rooms, I suppose it's a matter of taste. Our rooms are designed for comfortable shortstays. For guests who expect a bit more we have a wide range of executive rooms and suites at a reasonable surcharge, which also include free breakfast and minibar. For more classical upscale rooms I'd recommend the Hilton Amsterdam.
