“Interesting and Informative”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2014

Het Scheepvaartmuseum is a great maritime museum celebrating a great seafaring people. The ship moored outside the museum is very interesting and gives a great idea of the size of these old ships. It's hard to believe that a ship like that could actually cross the Atlantic! But the museum is so much more than that. It is difficult to take it all in, particularly when you don't have much time. The virtual sea adventure was excellent and gives an experience of what it is like to be on the sea.

“Interesting,.....well worth a visit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

I loved the incredible collection of navigational equipment, old ships figureheads and actual artifacts. The container "ride" video experience is cool and great for kids. The tall ship replica is incredible and has a great feeling of a step back in time. All good! You can spend hours here on a rainy day. Highly recommend for all.

“Good experience for naval enthusiasts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2014

Was really interesting going through the exhibitions on the Dutch East India company etc. A lot of naval history here! And visiting the actual sailing ship and able to walk around on board was a great experience.

“Interesting but overpriced and not enough exhibit info”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2014

I loved going thru the reproduction of the sailing ship at the dock, but really, really wanted more information on it, such as how they would have rigged it, info on the masts, etc. This would have been perfect for an audio guide where you can choose the tracks that are of interest to you. It seemed more geared to a kids play area. There was a museum employee stationed on deck, and altho he was personable he didn't seem to have info on the ship. I went thru a couple of exhibits in the main building but realized I was running out of time. It needs 3 or 4 hours minimum to get your money's worth. The slave transport exhibit was interesting, but obviously geared to school groups.

As someone else mentioned it is an odd set up inside where you can't really get from one exhibit section to another without going back down to the courtyard and starting up again. I would have liked information on the building itself too. Perhaps that was in one of the exhibits I missed.

This is definitely not worth 15€.
