“Nice coverage of Dutch Seafaring.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013

Quite a bit to see for those interested in the subject. Those who like a one hour run through might be breathless.

Interesting area devoted to enslavement, historic and current, with a question and answer area to explore one own attitudes.

Fortunately it stopped raining when we went outside to the replica of the East Indiaman Amsterdam.

“Best Museum that I have EVER visited”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

From the ship VOC Amsterdam to the globe room, the astrolabe room, the collection of nautical paintings, to the building itself, this is by far the best museum in Amsterdam (i get tired of paintings if that is all there is). The multimedia presentation is very interesting also. Be sure to row hard! :)

“A Serious Disappointment”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

I had twisted my ankle on an uneven sidewalk, so to help it, I walked from the Van Gogh in Museumplein to the Maritime Museum, a distance of about three miles. When I got there, with the exception of a few paintings, the terrific masthead collection and a special exhibit on Slave Ships, this was a serious disappointment. Walking up too many stairs was a challenge with my ankle, but I finally discovered an elevator. The gift shop is mixed with the coffee shop and they don't have enough postcards of the things you really want postcards of, such as some of the paintings or the mastheads. I had to go, because I try to do at least one new museum in Amsterdam every time I go, but I won't bother with this one again!

“No interest”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2013 via mobile

We didn't see anything interesting, If you go with children the ship is very nice and they can play there.
If we compare with other maritim museums ir other Amsterdam attraction i don't recomend it.

“Does not overwhelm with information”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2013 via mobile

This is a modern museum that has been curated in a very imaginative way. It does not overwhelm one with information but entertains in a most thought-provoking way. The section about slavery that finishes in a jury room with real contemporary issues is its best example and is to be highly recommended. Requires not less than half a day to do it justice.
