The remarkable building on top of the IJ-tunnel offers five floors of exciting hands-on activities. At NEMO you can experience the joy of science and technology, by blowing gigantic soap bubbles, watch an enormous chain reaction and experiment in a real laboratory. In a variety of exhibitions you can 'Take a journey through the mind' or learn that there is more than meets the eye when it comes to sustainable electricity and smart transportation at 'Smart Technology'. Enjoy a magnificent view over Amsterdam The creative mind behind NEMO, build in 1997, is Italian architect Renzo Piano. He had a clear vision for his design of the NEMO building, with its very own piazza 22 metres above water level. The spectacular roof terrace has a magnificent view over Amsterdam and the Eastern Docklands. You can access the roof terrace free of charge. The roof terrace and cafe in NEMO are the perfect places to sit back, relax and enjoy a drink.

“Interesting, fun, but make sure you give yourself enough time!”

The museum is aimed at children and teens - but aren't we all big kids at heart? Whilst you aren't likely to learn much in the way of science, it still allows you to enjoy the interactive demonstrations of it in practice, which is always fun, but it also reminds you of all the little amazing thing that the world does. The only problem I had with the museum was that I like my sleep, and it being a good walk away from centraal station, it meant that I never quite managed to get there before 3 and you definitely need a good three hours to make sure you get around everything, which I unfortunately didn't, however, I will go back on my next visit! Adults may also enjoy the huge expanse of roof terrace and café that looks out over the city. Beautiful views, gorgeous area, yet still has fountains and fun games for kids. The place really has it all for a fun and explorative day out, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

“Fantastic museum”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

Great interactive science and technology museum. Most artifacts are interactive with detailed explanations. There are several shows that explain various aspects of science and technology. On busy days, unruly kids (and parents) can play rough. Not much supervision from the staff. There are also some materials in upper floors that is not so suitable for younger kids. The top floor and the beach are amazing and unique to this particular museum. It is easier to reach and accessible by bike or foot. For detailed tour with multiple or older kids may take all day. Must see if you are visiting Amsterdam with kids.

“Amazing that the soapbubbles were the best”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

We went on a summerday in july because we thought there wouldn't be that many people, we were wrong. Nemo was crowded and though it is big some of the activites were too crowded.
It is amazing that soapbubbles Attracks most people but maybe it's because Big and small find its funny.
There was Lots of new science for us and the kids and it was good learning. But 6 is the minimum age for kids. We Got a 4 year old with us and she found it too much with the noise and All the people.
