“Beautiful postcard view of Amsterdam”
Reviewed February 5, 2014

Prinsengracht, known as the Princess Canal in English, is one of the three (man-made) canals that make up the canal belt of Amsterdam. The streets are lined with warehouses; you can recognize the warehouses by the simple (aka non-decorated) hooks on the top section of the houses. The other two canals; the Gentleman and the Emperor, are mostly lined with housing for the rich. So although the houses on Prinsengracht will not be as pretty as the other two canals, it is certainly a nice place to stroll down for a walk, especially at night. Furthermore, Anne Frank house and the Tulip Museum is within close vicinity.

I had the pleasure of staying in one of the houseboats on Prinsengracht during my visit in Amsterdam through couchsurfing. The view is particularly stunning (and you can find this on many postcards) during the night when the nearby church (Westerkirk) and bridges are lighted up.

Highly recommended if you want to take photos or just take a breather (it's the furthest canal of the three from the city and hence much less crowded).

“Typical Postcard View of Amsterdam”
Reviewed January 29, 2014

One of the canals in the ring in Amsterdam, it is picture postcard as you imagine the city to be, canal, bridges, trees, bicyles, cobbles, traditional Dutch tall narrow, gabled buildings, shops, cafes and the famous Westerkirk and Anne Frank's house. The whole area is brought alive in Anne's diary so good to see the area from a historical perspective as well. Lovely to amble along or view from a canl boat trip.
