This is an exceptional piece of history from a less tolerant time. It is a remarkable feat of engineering creating a secret Catholic chapel complete with pews and organ in the roof of a townhouse. It is now a very well run tourist attraction efficiency handling large numbers of visitors and is a treat for church lovers.

Never imagine in the narrow and normal looking building in amsterdam 'hide' a church in the attic. The church itself is small but the paintings on the wall and at the alter is amazing. The kitchen at the lower floor of the building is original and well preserved. The tiles inside are few hundred years old! The free audio guide provided a lot of information! The downside for this attraction is the very narrow yet dark corridor and stairs which we have to walk cautiously. Also remember to use the shoe cover when entering the attic!

Really wanted to find this place and i'm glad i did. The history of it is unreal! You feel as though you have stepped back, to a time where freedoms where limited. Good information along the way via a free audio guide. Very interesting and just beautiful, fascinating for anyone regardless of personal beliefs. Something off the beaten track and different for Amsterdam. And only €9. There were renovations going on next door, but this did not impact on my experience.

Even though most of the Dutch people haven't been to this museum, I would certainly reconsider if I would be someone living in the city of Amsterdam, or having some spare time. First of all, this is a very light and quick place to be visited. The visitor goes smoothly throughout all the floors of this old house, in which a secret church was build, so the Catholics of the 17th century (if I am not mistaken), could practice their religion. Moreover, one can have a true idea of how a typical house from the Golden Age looks like from its inside. Enjoy your tour through the "Our Lord in the Attic"!

I went the day before my teenage son arrived, thinking he wouldn't be interested. It was so fascinating that we both went the next day, and it was a favorite experience for both of us. Triple history of the merchant's house in the front, the amazing church at the top, and the modest house in the back. Helpful audio guide is included in admission price. I hope it retains its humble charm after renovations are complete.
