Owner description: This magnificent Renaissance church (circa 1620) is identified by its high tower (more than 245 feet high,) and is the site of Rembrandt's grave who was buried here in 1669.

The church itself is a typical 'plain' Protestant church, so much less decoration but it still feels lovely and the church organ is magnificent. Take a guided tower tour but be warned you need flat shoes and the stairs are very steep and narrow. The story of the bells and the carillon is very interesting. So too, the architecture of the tower and the old oak timbers are just magnificent. Only complaint would be that 30 minutes does not give you much time to linger and enjoy. You will need to be prepared to leave all bags in a safe cupboard and only cameras are allowed to be taken up - for safety reasons.

The West church tower has to be one of the best places to visit. We walked over from our hotel and arriving at 2pm found we could not enter until 3.30pm. Visits are limited to 6 persons at a time and each visit takes 30 minutes. However there is no need to kick your heels for 90 minutes. Take a walk across the river to the adjacent Jordaan area with its shops and attractive streets. We stopped for coffee and watched the world go by for a while before returning for our visit. Each tour is accompanied by a guide who gives you some history and background of the tower, bells and carillon as you ascend the various levels. The stairs and ladders are quite steep and narrow so wear sensible shoes and cloths. At the top on the viewing platform the view is superb. We did however have a good sunny day. It might not be so good in the rain!

It is a protestant church, not really big and the interior is quite modern. The candleholder is not antique one but modern artistic. Most of the visitor are tourists. The atmosphere is not like a real church. Well, the pipe organ is beautiful. The tower is very famous and for € 7,50 you'll enjoy the view of the centre of Amsterdam. Climb it when the sky is clear

Nice guys here. The stairs are tough for anyone with fear of heights but otherwise this is a relatively cheap and easy way to spend a half hour and see some Amsterdam history. I'd recommend doing this one. Great opportunity for photos up top!

Tough climb - really is up and down so not suitable if not fir or suffer from vertigi.
views good once up there.
you will need to book as only 6 persons go up at a time, we had to wait for 45 mins so just time to go for a coffee first.
You go up with a guide who gives great infomation about the church and tower and Amsterdam too. Only get about 10 mins outside on the very safe balcony and thats probably enough to see everything.there not many high places in Amsterdam so its a good chance to see the layout etc.
