Owner description: Completed in 1889 and located in the heart of town, this neo-Renaissance rail station was designed by P.J.H. Cuypers, the same person who designed the famous Rijksmuseum.

Amsterdam Central Station has been operated since 1889. It is not only a station but it is one of beautiful buildings in amsterdam. Up to now, people are still busy building a tunnel as underwater as underground that connect north amsterdam to the centre of amsterdam, special for the bicycle. Also a subway tunnel from north to the centre. It will be finished in 2017.Not only from outside how beautiful the architecture is, inside you can find more. Look up to the ceiling of the cuypershall (from the main entrance) and also the grand cafe and the waiting room of the royal family. Once in a while there is an open day visiting the tunnel (still in construction) and get information of it.

Beautiful neo classical facade. A one-of a-kind exterior for a railway station. The inside, though, could be a railway station in any city. The information booth is helpful but is not opened on weekends. The service counters are also ok.

The gateway into central Amsterdam and excellent transportation for the tourist.

This is the starting place to trains around the Netherlands as well as the normal and hi speed trains to Brussels and Paris.

All trains keep to rigid time-tables but the overhead monitors don't work at times.

ALWAYS too busy, too crowded, limited acess to washrooms, WAY overpriced left luggage station. But it's the hub of all transport, so take your time, DON'T try to catch a train on short notice, and always have 50 p for the ONE small, crowded male AND female washroom!

Wondered what this building was as we were heading for the red light district and to our surprise it is the most ornate train station we had seen in some time. It is huge and has had many additions to it since it was first built back in around 1890. Several days later we had to catch the train to Brussels and found the train system worked very efficiently.

The main access point for tourists arriving in Amsterdam, the neoclassical building is impressive both in scale and design. Unsurprisingly, the interior could be anywhere, however! Travellers will find the signage good and staff are helpful. The ticket machines can be a bit confusing.
