Another Amsterdam success! The museum is light, airy and accessible, set in the Museums Quarter where you can eat, ice skate (at least in winter!) and just generally enjoy the open space.
We queued for a short while (5 minutes or so) but as we had bought tickets earlier from the kiosk at the hop on/off bus stop, we were able to avoid the longer queue.
The exhibits are displayed chronologically on three levels, to which there are stairs and lifts. The museum was busy but the size of the exhibition rooms meant that it was easy to circulate and view the paintings and other items of interest, all of which gave a comprehensive insight into the artist's life and emotions.
An enjoyable first visit!

Did the usual and got there before opening - yes a little cold to wait - but worth it to be at front of que for buying tickets. The irony was that the pre purchased tickets had a very long que. And another advantage - that early no crowds so a 'private' viewing of Sunflowers - expect for the guard. I did the highlights only. Shop is great. Don't be fooled by the 'Museum Shop' in the square - the one in the museum is much better. Time frame to spend there depends on your needs/interest. I got the audio track which had some interesting things on it - but well signed in English as well.

This is simply a great museum. One of those wonderful museums where there is plenty of space and light to enjoy the artists work, to learn the back-stories if you wish or just take in the beautiful pieces. The building and grounds contribute to the wonderful experience. Highly recommended.

Great Visit - I already appreciated Van Gogh's work, but seeing it up close, in-person, and without being reproduced as a flat print is truly amazing. It was really cool to see how he and his artist friends influenced each other and affected each others' lives personally and professionally - the relationships are on display as much as the art.

The museum does a good job in paying honor to one of their most talented native sons. Many people are familiar with Van Gogh and his most famous works - but after my visit I now have a lesser known favorite - "Red Cabbages and Onions", not sure why - but I really like it. "Almond Branches in Bloom" is also very striking. His broken brush stroke technique is so much more "alive" in-person - it really is amazing how he put paintings together.

This is a MUST visit if you are in Amsterdam.

The pictures and letters are wonderful. You have to leave your ruckies in the cloakroom but this is great in winter as you can leave your coats etc and wonder round unimpeded
