“Interesting displays, confusing layout”
Reviewed September 8, 2013 via mobile

My husband and i visited this museum together and we both agrees that the displays were good, but ruined by yhe fact that we couldn't figure out how to get from point A to B, despite there being "maps" there. There were many prople we encountered who were trying to get to a beautiful long hallway with a patchwork carpet representing many nations that we could see but not get to (finding out upon exit that there is only access from outside the museum). Also, had to backtrack through exhibits to get out of areas, and i'm still not sure we saw everything in the museum, we gave up trying to figure it out after a while. Better signage and maps would have been immensly helpful.

“Very interisting for learning more about Amsterdam”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

With a very short time in the city, Amsterdam Museum was the only one we decided to take time to enter and see, so we could learn more about the city of Amsterdam and understand better all we were seeing and experiencing out there. It is a very interesting museum and the most interactive I have ever visited, with visual, audio and even items with scent!! I definitely recommend!

“This museum would interest locals more than tourists.”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

The Amsterdam Museum is very close to Begijnhof, so it would be easy to visit both of these attractions in an afternoon. This massive historical museum is on the site of a former orphanage, and, as you would expect, tells the story of Amsterdam. This museum would interest locals more than tourists, but still has plenty to fascinate any casual museum-goer. It’s bigger than it looks, and we all managed to lose each other. Where would we be without our mobile phones?

“An ok museum, but down the priority list compared to others”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

Have traveled a few times to Amsterdam on business and always take a little time to see the sights or museums. Happened upon this one while shopping and decided to pop in. Overall it was ok, but doesn't begin to compare to the Rijksmuseum or Van Gogh Museum in importance or content. Best parts...history laid out chronologically so it was easy to follow and some of the older artifacts, particularly money chests were quite interesting. Would take in this museum only if you have ample time to spend in the city. If you are on a short visit, I would pass.

“Well worth going”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Very nicely planned museum. It was the perfect stop after spending the day walking the city. The exhibits are well planned and easy to navigate. They have included lots of interactive exhibits, videos and audio components.
There is a lovely courtyard cafe that you can go to even if you don't enter the museum. We didn't go but it was shady and pretty.
