If you want to learn about Amsterdam history, this is not the place. The exhibits only provide enough information to tease. For example, they talk about the dam and canals, but not why they were built and why there. They discuss having houses in piles but did not explain whether they have been replaced in modern times. Instead they focused on a shoe they found in the mud. The exhibits were high tech (using bar codes) but it didn't always work and the technology was unnecessary. We could not find the permanent exhibits because of the confusing layout. We left with more questions than were answered. If we did not get in as part of a museum pass, we would have asked for our money back - it was so frustrating and poor.
