Owner description: The Jewish Historical Museum is a modern museum of Jewish heritage housed in four monumental synagogues near Waterlooplein in the heart of Amsterdam. Three permanent exhibitions present the history and culture of the Jewish people in the Netherlands. In addition to the three permanent exhibitions, the museum always offers two great temporary exhibitions and the fun JHM Children's museum.

Very interesting seeing all the different artefacts. The films & interviews on the small screens were very informative. Worth a visit if you have time!

“I could easily have spent the day here”

How did these people hide all those artefacts? I particularly enjoyed the interactive areas where you could learn about what it is like to be a Jew. FASCINATING, thank you

“Could be better”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2013

The Synagogues within the museum area were renovated and little info is provided regarding what they looked like in the past. The info provided is basic Encyclopedia Brittanica for children type reference to Jewish festivals and customs but almost none pertaining to the actual Synagogue and its history. The exhibitions are also uninspiring and the whole museum can be seen in around 30 minutes.

“Moving”

If you are in to history it's a must see. I've never seen a better Jewish historical museum, not even in Germany. I spend almost four hours there. There are at least two screens on every corner and you can watch interviews, photos, see more information about the objects in the room and watch authentic videos made during the ww2. These is the most reasonable money I've spend on a museum in Amsterdam.

“Very interesting museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2013 via mobile

This museum is a jewel with the beautiful paintings depicting Jewish life in Holland. There are also quite a few beautiful silver religious pieces on the main floor. The second floor highlights the Jews that contributed in developing the Jewish community in Holland. Everything is displayed beautifully and easy to follow. The audio guide is state of the art and explains everything very susinctly.
