We had a nice walk through from the station tot he Waterlooplein market. It is as you expect a mixed range of stalls selling alsorts of things - much of which you will not want to buy! There's are some interesting stalls too so I would suggest a walk throughout the market and se what you can pick up.

Try a bit of haggling too - we were able to get a better price than originally asked for!

Thank Paul M

Had high hopes for the market but was a real let down. Was just lots of stalls selling old second hand items. Nothing special, would advise to give it a miss.

I like waterlooplein Market a lot. There's so many hidden gems lurking between its stalls and chasing them down is a nice way to pass a day. You'll find vinyls, vinyl players, arts and crafts stuff, tons of junk and lots of vintage clothing. The coolest place is a vintage clothing stall run by Tom, an ex-German soldier. Make sure to drop by there and have a look at his exquisite merchandise. There's gear there from the 50s onwards, both military and civilian. He has German pilots leather jackets, trench coats, American GI jackets, medic bags, gas masks, pilot hats. It's incredible and his shop alone is well worth the trip.

The thing is though, Tourists looking for things specific to Amsterdam might be a little disappointed. There's not much that differentiates this place from other flea markets and your time might be better spent in another place, especially if it's limited.

If you live around Amsterdam or have time to spare though, you've got no excuse not to visit it.

We read about it being one if not the most important flea market of AMS but after we saw it I must admit I've seen better and bigger stuff. maybe it's unfair to compare it to other flea markets but this is quite small and not impressive.
It's a market like others and the hype around it (lonely planet guide) is not justified.
Great flea market are others.
If you have time go see it but do not expect something amazing.

first entered the waterlooplein after a 20 minutes walk from the amsterdam centraal station, it was an alley full of bookstands, however as you go deeper you will see people laying down stuffs for sale on a picnic like cloth or inside a suitcase, with used shoes, clothes, second hand musical instruments etc. good place to go if you have 1 hour spare in Amsterdam, otherwise, don't expect much.
