“Beautiful authentic hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013 via mobile

Stayed just one night, but a fabulous experience in this hotel. Great spot and easy to walk everywhere. Staff where also fabulous. Rooms are nice and authentic, but a bit pricey for what they are. Breakfast was also good. Overall a beautiful hotel.

We had the pleasure of staying at the Westin Pulitzer in June of this year (2013) on a 3 day stopover in Amsterdam on our way to France and we were extremely happy with the hotel.

It’s on a lovely canal within walking distance of many attractions. Close to dining, museums and shopping – we could not have asked for a better location. A great area to just stroll around as well.

I thought the hotel itself was fantastic. We upgraded to a Deluxe Canal View room, and it was very nicely appointed. It was a good sized room by European standards and the bathroom was a decent size. It was equipped with a Nespresso machine which was a very nice touch and a big improvement over the standard hotel coffee machine.

We were very impressed with the staff. They were courteous, professional and extremely helpful. From the bellman, to the front desk, to the concierge and the restaurant and cleaning staff, we could not have asked for better or friendlier service. Several of the staff in the restaurant enquired as to where we were from and engaged us in conversation showing a real and genuine interest in us.

I was most impressed with all aspects of this hotel and would highly recommend it. We would most certainly stay there again.

We stayed her for 2 nights in early October. A pleasant walk from the main train station and perfect location overlooking a canal. Our room was spacious and the bed sumptuous. Great choice for breakfast and genuinely polite staff.

We stayed here for 4 nights and the hotel is impressive. It's made out of a bunch of Amsterdam style houses, we were appointed a top floor room so we felt like we were in a cabin because the sealing was the roof of one of the houses

The concierge team is very good and knows how to give great tips about places to go in Amsterdam.

Bed was great and bath rooms also.

We did not have breakfast in the hotel so we can say anything about it.

Dear Sammy D,

Thank you very much for your review on TripAdvisor.
Hotel Pulitzer indeed consist of 25 authentic Canal Houses, dating back from the 17th and 18th century. Did you also read the story in your room with regards to the history of the house you stayed in? We recently implemented the background information on the Canal Houses, so that the houses truly come to live again.

I hope we may welcome you again in Hotel Pulitzer.

My wife and I recently spent 3 nights at the Hotel Pulitzer. The hotel is quaint and is located in a peaceful and picturesque area of Amsterdam within an easy walk of the heart of the Nine Streets and Jordaan districts of the city. In addition, the hotel is located within easy walking distance of one the Westermarket tram stop, which appears to be one of the better serviced tram stops in the city.

Although the location of the hotel was excellent, we were disappointed by the quality and size of the rooms. Given the somewhat unique nature of the property as the aggregation of a number of previously independent apartments/homes, it seems that the quality, size and accessibility of the rooms varies significantly. Unfortunately for us, we ended up in a relatively small room on the 3rd floor which could only be accessed by navigating a set of stairs. Making matters worse, we didn't have a good experience with the hotel concierge. We tried to make meal reservations on at least 4 occasions - twice with the name of a place in mind and twice where we were open to suggestions - and were never able to actually make a reservation. In two of these cases, we were told that the restaurant didn't take reservations (in both cases they did) and in the other cases we were essentially told that we'd be better served to walk around and pick something once we got to a general area. This is certainly not the type of service we expected from such a pricey hotel.

Room Tip: Since the hotel is a collection of old apartments, the quality of rooms seems to vary dramatically...

Very good place to stay, great location. Rooms are on the smaller side, but nicely appointed. Staff could do with more training though: we asked the congierge to book us on the bus to the airport and were assuered of it. However, upon departure our names were not on the list of the driver, seemngly due to an error of the congierge team..

As Starwood members we stay at Luxury Collection hotels in Europe. The room was small but comfy. Amenities great, even sent a birthday cake!

Front desk staff was kind & courteous & the concierge helpful.

Enjoyed it immensely & would come back.

Breakfast buffet is pricey but worth it!
