“Great Place to spend some time”
Reviewed November 25, 2010

This is the place to go. Cafes, hundreds of restaurants, coffee shops (of both kinds), disco's, Boom Chicago, street performers, street vendors. This lively outdoor square has stuff going on 24 hours a day. Some great restaurants are within a block's walk of the Leidseplein. You can sit outside at any of the myriad bars and have a drink and watch the world go by, get a homemade ice cream, watch a comedy show, watch the street performers (some of them should be professional). Most trams will take you right there, it is crowded with people of all ages, and you really feel the pulse of Amsterdam right here.

“Cracking place for a drink.......”
Reviewed August 19, 2010

Doest matter wether its day or night, the lieden is great place to sit down, chat , people watch or have a good old drink. Soak up the vibes and be ralaxed amongst the hustle and bustle of dutch life. There is a cracking selection of pubs and places to eat, i tend to go to "jimmys bar"sat at the end of the row, a top little irish bar with evrything you need, sky sports for the football minded as well. Next door is rock cafe formerly the rolling stone bar, for the music minded....enjoy

“Central place for food, beer and people-watching!”
Reviewed February 7, 2010

You'll find this place buzzing at any time of the day! Weather permitting, there willl be tons of tables outside to sit back, have a few beers, chat up and watch people! If you are lucky, you'll find street artists performing in the square. There are a LOT of options for food.

If you walk one block towards Centraal (along the tram line with Bulldog on your right), you'll reach Prinsengracht, the 1st in a series of concentric canals. Walk along the canals to get a true feel of this pretty city!

The Holland Casino and the Hard Rock Cafe are also close-by in case you are interested. Personally I like sitting at the Hard Rock Cafe here but only if I can find a table outside by the canal!

“If u like to people watch this is the place to be....”
Reviewed August 4, 2009

Our hotel was just steps away from this lively area chock full of indoor & outdoor cafes, many street entertainers, jugglers, accordionists, ect. The Boom Chicago Theatre is in this square & restaurant row is nearby with a multitude of ethnic restaurants...Italian (Ristorante Peppino - Leidsekruisstraat 32 was a favorite...we had the veal with eggplant)..we also liked the Satellite Sports Cafe - Leidesplein 11 (bottle of Bud 3,90 e - try the Sky Wings with hot sauce), the Bulldog Coffeehouse is next door. You can find any type of food you can think of...Greek, Indonesia, steakhouses, pancake houses, McDonald's..you name it & you can find it here. There are also shops nearby & Trams leave from here too. It did not get dark until 10 pm while we were there so we waited for the lights to go on...festive. We spent a lot of hours in this area. Lots of tourists & locals to interact with. We felt very safe in this area even though it was crowded.
