This beautiful museum is one of the highest rated in the world. The portrait painting is superb, picturing wealthy and prominent people of the Dutch Golden Age with details of their clothing so fine it fairly jumps out of the frame.
The most famous of all the paintings, Rembrandt's Night Watch, is currently being restored right in front of your eyes. We liked that most of the rooms had cards in several languages explaining the highlight work of art. You could sit on a bench and read the background material right there while seeing the painting in front of you.
Try to do the highlights first, then go on to the many other fine works of art, including a couple of Van Goghs and other Dutch impressionists.
