Owner description: The Rijksmuseum is the museum of the Netherlands. The completely renovated Rijksmuseum tells the story of the Netherlands from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. Including works by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Frans Hals, and more! Most famous is Rembrandt's masterpiece the Night Watch. A new display of the collection, a renewed building, new public facilities, a revamped garden and a new Asian Pavilion. Open daily from 9 am to 5 pm.

I love the way that this museum is organized. Each floor houses art and other collections from a specific period. The collection of Dutch Masters was outstanding! As we had only four days in Amsterdam, we were able to target those things in the Museum that we really wanted to see. We then spent only a couple of hours there. To do the Museum full justice would take all day. I notice that some people complain of the price. The MuseumKaart is a great value and minimizes wait times.

For me, it was a bit like a small Louvre, many masterpieces of Flamand painters, Rembrandt in primis. Night Watch is incredible, but also Vermeer's Milkmaid or huge gun collection on the base floor are impressive as well. I strongly recommend it!

Wow, the newly reopened Rijksmuseum is fabulous! I really appreciated the iPod multi-media tour headsets. The building is beautiful and the paintings are amazing. The library and doll houses are so cool! Get your tickets on-line, but be aware that you still have to wait in a line. Go early if you can. We spent about 3 hours here and it was well worth it!

Since I am no art expert, I loved that one can view the "Masters" without having to go to extraordinary lengths to see them. Audio not worth the $ though.

From the outside and in the Atrium entrance, the building looks huge and overwhelming, but most of the rooms of the collection are relatively small and welcoming. The rigorous chronological layout seems restrictive at first, but actually allows a fun crash course on medieval, renaissance golden age and some modern art. Fine for those whose museum mood expires in 2 hours. This summer, the Henry Moore sculptures in the garden must not be skipped.
