Firstly you need to appreciate that the Rijksmuseum is currently undergoing renovation. As such, only one wing of the musuem is open and is displaying a selection of their presumably vast collection. My husband and I were thankful for this, because it still took us over an hour and a half to go round the selection with our audioguides - I couldn't imagine having the patience to see the entire thing! Having free museums in Britain makes us more likely to find the prices of museums abroad expensive, but I did feel that the entry to this museum is expensive when considering that audioguides are not included in the price and are practically necessary to really understand it all. That said, the collection was very interesting and it was a great way to spend the morning hiding from the pouring rain. Skip the queue here by buying tickets/vouchers at one of the canal bus shops or from your hotel - or online as we did. We just walked straight down the fast lane and into the museum.
