“Interesting art museum having 17th century art”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

We had a guide take us through this museum. One could also rent a headset. This was very helpful as we learned a lot about the history of the Golden Age of Dutch painting. There were paintings by Rembrandt, Vermeer, etc. A very informative and enlightening day.

“Great even in the middle of renovations”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

We visited the museum not knowing there was a reconstruction going on. Anyway, the exhibit was great and all the best pieces of the collection were on display. See the famous paintings by Vermeer, Rembrandt, and other famous dutch masters along with Warhol, Mondrian (on a dress!) and others. The centerpiece of the collection is of course the Night Watch by Rembrandt van Rijn. The painting is amazing, magnificent and breathtaking and you'll especially enjoy it when you manage to steal a minute in its room without the crowds (arrive early).

“Take your time looking at the detail in the pictures”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

This is a great art museum. We visited at the end of a day when it was quieter which allowed us to inspect the paintings close up. I liked the paintings by Rembrandts contemporaries as much as those by the man himself. One artist (I can't remember which) added unexpected fun characters to his paintings. This isn't a dry & dust museum but very interesting.

“The facilities may be temporary, but the masterpieces are all here”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

Amsterdam has many fine museums but this is the grandaddy of them all. The huge building is undergoing a major renovation but until it is finished in 2013, only one wing is open. But all of the museum's major masterpieces have been gathered together in this wing so you get to see a concentration of the very best artworks, many of them recognizably famous. This is the creme de la creme of Dutch art. So it is more than worth a visit right now.

“Great to sRent headsets sin you native language and you will enjoy the exhibits much more and trying to reapend 5 hours.”
Reviewed October 26, 2012

Great to rent headsets 5 euros in you native language and you will enjoy the exhibits much more and trying to read all of the fine print descriptions. Also go on line so as not to wait in the cue which depending on day and time can be a 1hr plus wait.
The printout is good for entry on any day or time, but lets you cut the cue to the front
