“Very Disappointed”
Reviewed October 26, 2012

My husband was running the Amsterdam Marathon and this hotel was in a good location for where we wanted to be based. We were also travelling with friends and so thought this hotel would be appeal to all of us!
There is nothing overtly wrong with this hotel however I felt that it was very over priced for the quality being offered. We booked a Premium room but I have to say it is was far from premium. Although it was clean and tidy it was basic at best. Obviously booking a hotel during a city event leads to increased prices however, we felt that the prices here were definitely not good value for money.
Our premium room was very small and dark. The 'eco-friendly' decor and furnishings made the rooms appear very cold and unwelcoming, not my idea of trendy and modern. The bedside tables weren't very useful as they had no drawers and more annoying the shower had no door!
The bed was almost the worst I've ever slept in. There is no real base mattress, it is basically just a bed made of mattress toppers. Very soft and not the most comfortable as they provided very little support. Being in building B we could not hear any street noise however we could easily hear people in the adjacent rooms talking.
I never understand hotels that don't provide tea/coffee making facilities in the room either.
The hotel building itself is rather odd. The Hotel is sandwich between residential buildings so you have private flats looking right on to your room. Also if you are based in tower B you have to get 2 elevators and pass through a corridor that is almost hospital like.
On the plus side there is a welcoming bar area for a late night drink or afternoon coffee, small but comfortable and relaxing. The staff were pleasant but rather inattentive, constantly chatting while serving customers. The free wifi was appreciated and the fact that there is a tram stop directly outside the main entrance was extremely handy.
No one from our group would choose to stay here again, I would definitely book somewhere else.

Room Tip: The extra money for a premium room is not worth the value.

LOVE that this is an environmentally conscious hotel. The hotel also has a lot of character as well as very friendly staff. We had three of us to a room and it was still quite spacious and comfortable. I really thought this was a great value for the money. This hotel is also really close to Vondelpark, which was lovely, and just past the park are the museums, which was quite convenient. The hotel is not walking distance to many of the other tourist areas, but it is a €10/15 taxi ride to any of the other popular spots.

We have stayed here both times that we have been in Amsterdam in recent years, and will again in future. The hotel really does what it says about environmentally conscientious service. The location is excellet for walking downtown, through the park, or conntecting anywhere via the tram and train system. Staff are efficient and helpful. Rooms are comfortable, clean and quiet. The best part is the endearling little notes that are left everywhere that bring inanimate structures to life :-)

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the roof gardens. They are even more quiet, and the gardens are lovely.

Hotel rooms are average (comparable to pretty much any other chain) in size, comfort, service, etcetera. The entrance/bar/restaurant area is really cosy and even late at night, people will be using laptops to benefit from free wifi.

The thing that really makes it stand out is the eco-friendly cause of the hotel. In many details, the hotel owners tried to be more eco friendly. Eco-friendly materials, low-energy hacks, etc (see pictures). The concept is great but could have been taken even further and smarter; the notifications are sometimes a bit overdone, making it a bit pushy.

The location is good. The Overtoom street is quite busy and has a tram connection to the city center. It will take you approx 5-15 minutes to reach Museumplein, Leidseplein and Dam area.

For runners: The hotel is next to the Amsterdam Vondelpark, Amsterdam's no 1 spot to go running. You'll even find a Nike Run House (place where Nike organizes runs) at the other side of the Vondelpark. Check Facebook for running dates.

I really enjoyed my one night at the hotel. The front desk staff were pleasant, apologetic when I could not get my room even though I was there 3 hours before check in time. My bags were stowed and I rented a bike for the day. Great location near park and museum area. I got a great rate on booking.com. Drinks and snacks in lobby all the time. Free wi-fi. The rooms were very clean and a good hot shower. Also, tram #1 stops right in front of hotel, and to get to airport you do not have to go to Centraal Station, but a closer train stop! I would stay here again.

Room Tip: I was given a room facing the garden. Very quiet.

This is good value for money.
Clean, new room with very nice bathroom.
Easy access if you arrive by car and a good indoor parking.
Breakfast was nice.
Staff were friendly.
I will return here for sure.
Oh yes, and tram line 1 stops right in front of the door to take you to all the interesting spots within minutes.

Room Tip: Ask for room in tower A, to avoid a long walk

I booked a room well in advance as we were visiting Amsterdam on our anniversary I requested a double bed and reserved parking in the garage and duly received an email from the hotel stating they had booked me a nice double room.
Found the hotel ( you have to drive round the back to get to the garage). Booking in went very smoothly and was allocated room 126, fourth floor in tower B. Opened the door and could not believe my eyes. the room was so tiny and had two small single beds pushed together- something akin to what you would get in a hostel.
we didn't put our bags down but returned to the lobby and after being told there were no other rooms available and upon stating that I would like a refund we were offered a family room. This was much better - large and airy and had recently been decorated -Much better!. The shower and toilet was very clean, corridor was a bit noisy with through traffic and door noise - but you get that anywhere.
Did not bother with the hotel breakfast as there are plenty of eating places nearby.
Its only a 20 minute walk into the city centre and you can walk straight along the road or take an early left and walk through the park - lovely.
We walked back from the city at 01:00hrs- no problems at all.
the reception bar sells coffee -snacks at reasonable prices and a nice lounge area to sit and drink.
overall a reasonably nice hotel but spoilt by our initial room allocation. the site should be more specific on the size and give plan views of the layout.
there are no coffee /tea making facilities in the rooms and a travel kettle is worth its weight in gold!- would I stay here again- probably if I could be assured of the room quality and size.
