“Food OK - but the service could definitely be better”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2013

The cafe inside the Rijksmuseum was packed so we decided to try this place. The location is very good and the view of the Museumplein is very nice. The service on the other hand was terrible. We had to wait a very long time to order - and nearly left - and also had to wait a long time to pay. The food was Ok but not much more. The bread in the sandwiches could have been fresher and they were served with absolutely nothing on the side. The Ceasar salad was definitely not a Ceasar - it contained stuff like capers, beans and onions?

“Okay cafe near the Rijks Museum”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2013

We discovered this cafe in Rick Steeve's book. It is just behind the Rijks Museum. It has a pretty limited menu...more of a coffee shop with light sandwich/soup lunches. The food was pretty good but nothing really special. The service was friendly but kind of slow and we were anxious to get going. It's okay...I'd recommend it, but if you have the option, it would be better to get lunch prior to arriving at the Rijks Museum as there are limited pickings in the immediate neighbourhood.

“Good sandwich options. . .really?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2013

I am a local and we met friends here for a light lunch. Okay, it's a tourist trap but it's also where the sun happened to be shining today. I had what was billed as a ham and cheese tosti (translate grilled cheese) with tomato. What I got was,a paper thin slice of cheese, and a cheap boiled paper thin slice of ham on dry barely toasted white bread with a side packet of Heinz ketchup. . . I'm not joking, and all for the price of 4 euro (convert to US 5.41). Yeah it was 4 euro and I was paying for ambiance so what am I cranking about, but come on, try a little harder Cobra Cafe!

“Good sandwich options”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2013

This cafe is located opposite the Rijksmuseum. The menu is mostly sandwiches. We had the vegetarian options and they were good. Service is European - slow at first, but if you keep your cool you find they are courteous and very nice folks.

We had a good lunch and it was very convenient from the museum. There were a couple of groups of British "laddies" who kept the bar busy, but noting untoward whatsoever.

“Next to RijkMuseum but not a tourist trap”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2013

Not a gourmet place either, but very solid sandwiches, soup and more. And not too expensive. I had a tomato soup (soup of the day) with fresh basil and lightly toasted brown bread on teh side. Hearty and tasty. Also had the "Old Cheese and Fig and Walnut Compote" sandwich. "Aged cheese" would have been a more appetizing and accurate name. Just 2 slices of a nice aged semi sharp cheese balanced by a nice figgy sweet but not too sweet compote with some fresh walnuts. My wife's sandwich was avocado, Parmesan cheese, tomato, and lemon mayonnaise sandwich. Lots of avocado - go for the wholegrain bread. Again, not gourmet but solid fare for next to one of the best museums in Europe. 2 sandwiches, liter of water, one soup, 2 coffees cost 30 euros. Lots of outdoor seating, but we just sat inside to get a table immediately.
