“Centrally located, beautifully refurbished townhouse”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2010

This traditional Amsterdam townhouse has been expertly converted into a boutique-y hotel. It has a fresh and minimalist design, without tipping into stark/uber-cool territory, and is friendly and welcoming. Ours was a comfortable, quiet (thick, sturdy walls), clean and well-equipped room with a pretty roomy bathroom too (lovely big bath and strong shower). The stairs are steep, but this is part of the charm of the local architectural style. Informative, knowledgeable and approachable young hosts made ours a very enjoyable 2 night stay. Wholesome and healthy breakfast, served at a relaxed hour, was just what we needed for a long day's site-seeing. DVDs in lobby can be borrowed (DVD player in room) and there is also an honesty bar available with a good selection of wines and drinks. Coffee/tea 'to go' also provided during daytime - nice touch!

Our stay at Mauro Mansion was perfect. Hosts Berry and Marcel, were both more than helpful and made our vacation in Amsterdam as pleasant as possible. Especially the breakfasts were marvellous, each day some surprise. Also they kept in mind to make our son's visit memorable - little details as small Holland supporters attributes were nice thoughts and made him feel special. That kind of reception and personal contact with guests are possible only then, when you have small number of rooms in hotel and the hosts are nice persons. Mauro Mansion's house itself with it's history, high ceilings and wooden beams is marvellous. And off-course - the view to canal....
I wish Berry and Marcel all the best.

Where else would you find fresh flowers in your room? Where else would you find fresh squeezed orange juice for breakfast in the morning?

Marcel and Barry were wonder hosts. This was my first time visiting Amsterdam. Marcel went out of his way to help me orient myself in the city. He even looked up bus schedules and went on-line to book museum tickets for me.

5 minutes walk from the Centraal Station. The room and bathroom were sparkling clean. Bed was comfortable. I appreciated the bed lamp with an integrated i-pod dock.

Missing was an elevator but it shouldn't be a problem unless you travel like Diana Ross on tour.

As this place as just opened, it might well be a hidden gem at the moment but if there is the availability, make sure you book a room! We stayed on the 3rd floor in a 'Courtyard room' which featured a jacuzzi bath, Ritual bath products, and an Ipod dock and TV/DVD player in the main room.

Service was also exemplary with a full breakfast buffet in the morning which runs from 9am to 11am, which was great for me as I enjoy taking things more slowly on holiday rather than being up at the crack of dawn.

You will not be disappointed.

Mauro Mansion is a fantastic place to stay in Amsterdam. The owners have taken every care to create a modern, unique yet very relaxing small hotel in one of the best locations in Amsterdam. The attention to detail is very apparent from the choice in decor and linens to the small details like flowers, chocolates, waffles ... left in the room. Everything is kept spotless by the owners themselves. Also, you are made to feel at home by having access to a in house movie library complete with snacks and a bar. A great way to relax in your room after a long day of sightseeing! And the great breakfast each morning comes with a daily surprise and endless coffee, espresso, cappuccino ...
The location is just perfect. A quiet canal only a 5 minute walk to the central train station and the main tourist information center. Getting to and from the airport is a 20 minute train ride. Plus, it is easy to take day trips out of the city cause the trains, buses, ferries are all right there. And across the canal from the hotel there is a bike rental store called "Orange Bikes". Great well maintained bikes and arguably the best way to see all of Amsterdam. Or even catch a free ferry and bike north to see some of the smaller fishing villages. Great restaurants are a plenty within a 5-10 min walk. We would highly recommend the Thai Bird restaurant for authentic Thai Cuisine, Skek for very tasty food at reasonable prices with some cool music, and cafe Van Beeren for the authentic dutch food.
My initial concern about booking this hotel was that it appears to be in the "Red Light District". Well it is not. The street out front is quiet and you can get to and from the hotel without entering the "Red Light District". But if you are interested in this area it is close by.
So all in all a great place to stay for a quiet, modern, clean, friendly ... stay in Amsterdam. The owners act more like hosts and give excellent information on things to do, places to eat ... and take interest in your stay. I highly recommend staying at the Mauro Mansion!!!!

Berry and Marcel made us feel like family. Beautiful building with many nice touches. Room was perfect and the location is in just the right spot...on a quiet side street within walking distance to all the great restaurants, historical sites, and public transportation. Easily the best place we stayed during our vacation. Thanks guys, look forward to seeing you again sometime soon. Delia and Jim
