“Excellent small hotel in Amsterdam”
Reviewed December 2, 2013

I stayed here for two nights and found it to be a fantastic little hotel. What a find! I had one of the ground-floor rooms (which was ideal as I was traveling with a huge amount of luggage on my way back to Africa). I didn't notice any extra noise at all. The room was beautifully done--slightly quirky, and the complete opposite of the impersonal corporate style hotels I usually end up in for work trips. Berry and Marcel were very helpful, even arranging a special large taxi to handle my oversized luggage when I went to the airport. Breakfast was excellent and the welcome minibar is a generous touch. The location is great--just a few minutes walk from Central Station.

Wonderful boutique hotel within very easy walking distance of Central Station. Each room individual and special (and ours had excellent reading lights, unlike a report listed earlier) - with great bathroom, free minibar and comfortable furnishings. Berry and Marcel were super-helpful and really made our stay special. The breakfasts were lovely, with a new and special thing each day. Excellent value wines and snacks available 24 h/day, and DVD and CDs to choose for free from the library in the dining room.

This hotel is advertised perfectly, but still exceeded our expectations. Our room was quirky, comfortable and quiet. We appreciated the alarm provided to listen to our iPod. The breakfast was great, I have food allergies and was able to find enough to eat (which isn't always possible). The fresh juices are delicious, a fine assortment of whole fruits and the eggs were fluffy. The location was perfect for our arrival and for exploring Amsterdam.

This was our first time in Amsterdam and the instructions and directions for arrival were clear and concise, thank you!

Just as their website says...do you want a quirky but comfortable room OR do you want an elevator, turn-down service, etc.? Mauro Mansion doesn't advertise that they are more than they are, and travelers shouldn't expect more, even with the #1 rating.

That said, we loved our stay at Mauro Mansion, and thank the Tripadvisor community for raising this place up to the #1 hotel in Amsterdam, or I'm sure we wouldn't have found this little gem. All the previous reviews describe the charms, amenities and convenient location - which we also loved. Barry and Marcel were perfect, if reserved, hosts (and gosh, thanks for running those darn suitcases up and down the 3 floors for us!).

Mauro Mansion is not luxurious, but to me, seemed the perfect reflection of Amsterdam; easy, comfortable. Beauty mixed with edginess.

I agree that this is a well located hotel, quiet and close to station, and within walking distance to everything - but I am sure there are other hotels who also fill this criteria.
The bedrooms were a good size, however my biggest irritation was the lighting. To reach the bedside lights (in room 22) you had to get out of bed. And they did not provide enough lighting to read in bed. So you had to get out of bed and walk to the main door to turn the lights on and off. I agree this is no deal breaker, but frankly I had expected more.
Also I turned on the bathroom floor and bedroom radiator, and these were both turned off each night on my return, which seemed unnessesary.
The 'hosts' who gave good advice on where to eat, and booked tables for us. And there was always warm bread for breakfast which was lovely.

Room Tip: enjoyed the canal view, although there is some street noise

Great hotel, perfect hospitality, fine breakfast and advices from the staff made our stay in Amsterdam to want to come back as soon as possible. It is 5 minutes walk from central station so connection to the airport is also perfect. We got tips for really good and not very expencive restorants. They are really doing great job in this hotel. Only thing I would make better is put at least half terrace for smoking under the roof for the raining days.
Thank you Mauro mansion!

Stayed here last week for a couple of days with my girlfriend. WE picked this place because of the reviews from trip advisor and wanted somewhere close to the railway station and very central. For these reasons alone we would have struggled to find somewhere better but it gets so much better that just its location. It's set on a quiet street within walking distance off all major attractions and it's canal out front looks great.
Sadly when we were in Amsterdam it hardly stopped raining and we had the misfortune of sharing the city with thousands of Celtic football fans who were there to use the city for its bars around the red light area and make a lot of the locals feel uncomfortable. Saw some pretty horrible sites involving the fans and reminded me just what so many british people who come to visit Amsterdam can be like.
Trying to forget that we got to see what we aimed for and loved the town and its unique way it's laid out with canals and all its old building. There is so much history around the place that I'd advise everyone interested in this kind of thing to search the net for a background to Amsterdam and it's places to visit.
Back to the Mauro Mansion, we loved it. On it's website it describes itself as quirky which was what we were looking for. We travel a lot and get bored with the usual hotel room laid out in almost the same way every time. Our room was one of the courtyard rooms in the attic and it was spotless. Everything was just how you hoped a hotel room would be. The bed was fantastic, the place was very clean and it's design was so refreshing from so many places we've been to. The bathroom has lovely under tile heating, a huge jet bath, a separate shower that was right up there with some of the best you can get.
Yet it was the little things that Berry & Marcel offer that made us feel so welcome. They offer you a mini fridge in your room that is free and very much appreciated, they offered us help when we arrived with any info about Amsterdam, they have a collection of dvds downstairs that you can borrow if you have the time to watch anything, they have snacks and drinks downstairs available and call it an honesty bar that if you feel the need to use anything just let them know and settle up at the end of your stay... what an amazing idea although between us we only had a bottle of beer it was perfect if you forget anything and stay in your room more than we did.
I also have to add we had a fair bit of luggage as we were travelling from England and then onto Krakow for a little tour and I notice a few people on here saying the steps were a bit steep, well I forgot to thank the guys for managing to get those bags upstairs for us.
So finally highly recommended, somewhere we would definitely stay again and certainly amongst the best places we've stayed.
