Exceptional from start to finish. This is some of the best food I ever experienced; wonderfully creative dishes, beautifully conceived and presented. Each dish was a visual delight; sophisticated in blend of colour and texture and having fabulous contrasts and subtlety of flavours. All presented in unfussy but highly imaginative way. Each dish was a work of art and all that before we even tasted the food.
The food was perfectly prepared and cooked. Fresh ingredients and an imaginative mix of flavours: sweet, salty, spicy - subtly working together. All this created by one young and very talented chef who we could glimpse creating the dishes at the back of the restaurant.
We had the set menu of three courses which was very good value for money, especially for Amsterdam. We were brought an amuse bouche, which was a pleasant surprise and later we were offered a special dessert that the chef made especially for us, which consisted of a little sample of all of the desserts from the set menu; delicious.
The wine list is exceptional. We let the waiter select our wines as he knew which would best complement our dishes. We found the waiter to be very professional; he was attentive throughout, whilst also discreet and friendly.
The ambiance is relaxed and unhurried. We didn't need to book in advance as it was quiet due to the canal-side having extensive renovation work, which restricted taxi access, but I believe that normally it is advisable to book ahead.
We discovered the restaurant by chance. I'd wanted to take my boyfriend to somewhere special for his birthday and we we feel fortunate to have stumbled on such a special place.
