We took the Cheese and Clogs Tour and had a great time. The bike ride is a 22 km tour just outside Amsterdam through beautiful countryside full of canals, lakes, windmills and much more. No matter what level of fitness you are, don' be concerned about the distance. The pace is slow with lots of stops. The terrain is level. The bikes are new "Townie" cruiser bikes in perfect condition with very comfortable seats. The bikes have a pannier (saddle bag) to store your rainwear or water or whatever so you don't have to worry about carrying what stuff you bring along.

The folks at Joy Ride couldn't be more fun and helpful. Yurt (sp?) the guide is entertaining and knowledgeable. At the end of the tour when you return the bikes the owner Sean gives you great advice on restaurants and things to do in Amsterdam. These guys run a great operation. Give yourself a break from all the fun mania in Amsterdam and take a nice easy fun bike ride in the country.

My wife and I are hosting a visitor from abroad and found the Country Tour to have plenty to offer for all of us - whether a tourist from the US seeing Holland for the first time or two expats that have been in Amsterdam for 2.5 years.

I don't like to give too much away, as I think not knowing what's around each bend adds much to the pleasure of this experience. For starters, the group included short and tall people and young and old people, many of which had not been on a bike for some period. JRTs has bikes of all sizes and the pace is incredibly relaxed - no one had any problems with the physical part of the tour.

The attractions were great - at the expense of learning about Amsterdam in particular, we learned about the Dutch and how they used ingenuity and practicality over the last 800 years to develop their own unique way of live.

Yuri guided us through the sun, wind and shade and a wonderful variety of architecture, agriculture, industry, and culture. He was entertaining throughout and kept the history lessons amusing and light-hearted. Sean, the owner, was also incredibly helpful and accommodating and made use each feel like valued customers.

Upon logging in to TA to leave this review, I was so pleasantly surprised to see JRT as the #2 attraction in A'dam. I'm so glad to see JRT getting the recognition it deserves here on TA.

Take the tour! And when you do so, make sure to bring layers (even on a beautiful day, the wind can be nuisance) and also bring some water and a snack. By the time we made it to the cheese factory, we were very grateful for the Albert Hein sandwiches and sliced fruits we'd brought along in advance. And it's also probably useful to know that you definitely should make a reservation in advance, and I recall Sean offering before we got started to store some personal items for customers in case they had things they prefer not to take on the tour.

My Wife, 11 year old daughter and I took the Cheese, Clogs and Windmill Tour today. We had Yuri (hope that's the way its spelt) as our guide who for a Kiwi had a great knowledge of the area.
We would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see the countryside and a cheese/clogs factory.. (Guy at clog factory needs to probably stay in the workshop and not interact with customers).
Bikes were brilliant all lightweight and modern very comfortable cruiser style. Small group and regular interaction made the tour very personable.

I took the countryside tour in May 2013, and I really enjoyed this tour, despite getting soaked by the wonderful Northern Europe weather. The tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. This tour is worth every penny, and of course Amsterdam is the best bicycle city in the world.

We really wanted to do a more relaxing yet active tour of Amsterdam without walking for hours. Joy Ride Tours was the perfect fit. With Amsterdam being a total cycling city, it was the perfect way to feel local and get the right of way of the road after day of running over by them cyclist. You ride from Amsterdam and out onto the suburbs/countryside, so we got to experience the torturous, slow city-riding to a more relaxed riding adventure with nature as we strolled along.

100% worth it and totally affordable. On a side note, the owner was 100% accommodating in our group of 4 . I thought we booked for a Thursday tour, when in fact we booked a Friday tour (european calendars starts with Mondays and American calendars starts with Sunday, so I had no idea until we showed up); the owner let us join them for the day since they had spots to go even though we put them one over the limit. They did ask the group if it was ok to go over the limit though (so thank you to our group too), so you know when they say small group of 15, they keep their words!
