“Not Good!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

Very basic hotel, dated. Reminded me of dorms. The room had old furniture, bathroom needed to be replaced. Windows were at the top of the walls so you couldn't see out. The only good thing about the hotel is it is in a central location close to Central Station and attractions. Breakfast was in the pub next door however the food was good. Think this would be a good hotel if you were backpacking round Amsterdam, not for families.

Oudezijds Kolk! Just tell the taxi-driver that confidently in your best Dutch accent and you'll reach your destination in no time. About 20 mins from Schipol airport on a lazy Sunday morning. Fare is about 45 Euro. (Alternatively just show the driver your hotel booking) Located just on the tip of the redlight district, but you don't need to bother about it as there are plenty of other things to see and do. Many restaurants around, on medieval cobblestone streets, so no cars. Just be careful though, as the footpaths melt into the cycle paths, and those melt into the roadway! Good hotel - 3 star, free WiFi internet that you can access both int he lobby and in your room, that works. Good bathroom, fairly recently renovated (in the European time frame). Room is small, but big enough for 2 single beds pushed next to each other). Relatively clean. Inspect the towels first though - may have stains or the occasional strand of hair. They replace the bath towels daily and are generous with the bathroom tissue. Bring your own tolietries or make do with the public pool style shampoo/soap dispensers. Reception staff helpful. Ask them to help make a taxi booking if you need one. But be prepared for the taxi to be late, especially if it is rush hour. "A bird in hand is worth two in the bush", is the taxi-drivers' motto. The restaurant is the Irish pub next door (Molly Malone's), which serves a decent pint and also doubles as the breakfast place (breakfast included in the room price) from 7am to 10am.

Room Tip: Ask for the attic (4th floor). Avoid the basement of course.

This place is one to be avoided. You definitely do not want want to stay here, especially if you have a family with children. I made the mistake of renting rooms before looking at the Tripadvisor page. There were lots of small, curly, black hairs in the sink and it had the smell of urine attempted to be masked by cleaning disinfectant.
Each night was a nightmare as I lay down and began itching. I woke up in the night and found a small little black flea in bed as we slept. I decided not to tell my girls as they would freak out.
We reserved a room with windows. We got windows alright, small and high above the bed, and one was foggy and the other had a beautiful view of the pipes and the wall.
We should have checked out, but we were stuck as we wanted to keep our weekend, and there was no where else to go at the last minute.

Room Tip: No Fitness Center. Stay away from this place if you want to enjoy your trip to Amsterdam.

The best thing in this hotel is definitely his location that's very near to all the attractions like Red-Light District, Coffee Shops, Museums, etc and it's very near of the public transports.
Regarding the bad aspects you can expect a very noisy hotel (noise from outside and inside), with a very poor acoustic isolation. The rooms are a little expensive regarding their quality.

we could not have asked for a better hotel. friendly staff, all English speaking, wonderful atmosphere. the hotel is fantastically situated close to the canal boats, train, tram, and all the tours. We plan to return to Amsterdam for holiday and will be staying at France hotel. and the breakfast nest door in the Irish pub is fantastic, one could not ask for more. thank you so much

Two rooms booked in advance. Foyer shabby. The rooms are little better than cupboards , no windows and very shabby and airless. They had no other rooms available except for cupboards. We had paid in advance big mistake and it was too late in the evening to do anything else. At the very least they should have informed us there were no windows. very poor value for money . I do not recommend any one stays here. We paid almost almost 400 euros to sleep in two cupboards for one night. I have travelled a great deal and this is quite the worst hotel in Europe I have stayed in given the price I paid

Room Tip: Dont stay here if you can help it you wont know what you will get.
