We had stayed in the same building with the same hosts previously, and were delighted to return.
Checking in was very easy, as Wilson was in the flat awaiting our arrival.
The flat is elegant and attractive, and most welcoming.
The nearest metro station is only 2 minutes walk away, and only one stop from Amsterdam Central station.
There are many restaurants and attractions within easy walking distance.
This is a great place to stay if you do not want to be obligated to take all of your meals out in restaurants and if you need to do laundry. It is close walking distance to all that the old city has to offer too.
Arriving was on us, even though our host offered a pick up. When we arrived, Wilson greeted us and let us in and gave a brief orientation and two sets of keys. The apartment is very clean and small but well appointed and very comfortable. It has a very nice front space with a dinning table large enough for four, a sitting area and a king size bed. A small narrow hall takes you to the rear part of the apartment where there is a great little kitchen that I was able to put through its paces. The equipment and the appliances worked perfectly.
The laundry in the house was a big plus for us, we had come from a week in Germany and had few clean clothes left. The kitchen has a "combi" oven - microwave/convection oven, it was great. I know now that I need one of these! A coffee maker with supplied pods ( we bough more to replace what we used and left what we didn’t, I would suggest doing the same if you use any.) There was a basic panty as well with salt , pepper , oil and vinegar. Plates , flatware, glasses and some paper goods. We replace what we used and left more behind for the next guests.
The bathroom was small and narrow, so only one person at a time, but the shower was very large enough for two ;-).
The bed was comfy and the window treatments were able to be closed at night for privacy. They were also able to be opened completely for excellent light all day long.
The TV did not work ( I think it may have been "operator" error), but who is watching TV when your in Amsterdam !! The stereo worked perfectly and it sounded great. We found some great stations that played some of the best music I have heard in a very long time.
The neighborhood is walking distance from everything hat you want to see in the city, it is also super quite. The church bells were being serviced at the time of our stay, but in the past I have stayed in this area and they are very loud.
A large supermarket is just a 5 minutes walk, with a bakery and vintner all next to each other the same street. (The market does not accepted all forms of credit cards so you may have to use cash or get a special card from a local bank. Credit is not widely accepted in the city so ask before sitting down or at the time of the reservation.)
There were a few nice cafes and coffee shops at the end of the canals on both sides, so we were able to stay close if we wanted to and then go out exploring as well.
Rembrandt house is around the corner and so is the red light district. The flower market is a 10 minute walk.
It was very quite in and out of the apartment and it felt safe at all hours of the day and night on the street. We had only to go outside to take great photos of the city, some great one from inside too.
My recommendation is two thumbs up ! It was a wonderful space and we are even thinking of staying there when we return with our young children.
The Canal Apartments are centrally located to the majority of Amsterdam's tourist attractions - galleries, museums, theatres, markets and restaurants. Most within a short walking distance, with public transport close by. Several supermarkets are also within a couple of blocks of the apartment.
The apartment is spotlessly clean, spacious, comfortable and well appointed with a well equiped kitchen/laundry, including dishwasher, washer & dryer and seated eating area. The lounge/bedroom is spacious and beautifully furnished with antiques and attractive decorative ceramics. The dining area is situated in the window overlooking the street and canal and provides a constantly changing view. We spent a week here and enjoyed it immensely. Our host Bas was very obliging considering we arrived extremely early on a rainy Saturday morning and the apartment was still occupied by the exiting guests.
Nice apartment in a great location in one of the best cities in the world. Comfortable and well appointed.
We can't wait to return.
My boyfriend and I had a beautiful and magical trip in Amsterdam . The Apartment Canal we stayed in was clean, cozy and the perfect size for the both of us. The location made it easy for us to get to all of the areas we wanted to visit in two short days. The view from the window were incredible and checking in and out was very easy.
The area had mosquitos so make sure to bring some kind of repellent. If you're someone who can't stand any noise then this place isn't for you- we enjoyed the "sidewalk chatter" because it made us feel completely immersed in the culture. We had a great time! Can't wait to visit again!
As we grow older, our accommodation is increasingly an important part of how we enjoy our holiday. Bastiaan and his Amsterdam Canal Apartment certainly contributes hugely to our vacation. It was an elegant and yet relaxing place with all the comforts one can wish for in a holiday apartment. Bas was welcoming and helpful without being intrusive.
Sixth time in Amsterdam, first time in this wonderful apartment. Will not stay in a Hotel here again. Coming back in December. What can I say nothing is needed all is here. Lovely location, quiet but not far from the hussel and bussel. The owner Bas is welcoming and as helpful as you need. Thank you. PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT
