Fleas, or bed bugs, or some other nasty biting infestation in room 306. I stayed 2 nights in this hotel in that room. On the first night I received lots of bites on my arms, legs, hands, shoulders, back etc which itched like mad and came up in obvious bite swellings that were definitely not like a mosquito. I complained and the reception staff seemed concerned and immediately replaced the bedding and the mattress liner. That night I got more bites and when I complained again while checking out the hotel staff didn't care, simply saying that they hadn't had a complaint before, as if somehow that meant there couldn't be a problem now. They suggested it was an allergic reaction, and when I showed them examples of the bites they simply said “I don't know what that is. They refused to offer a refund saying that as I had booked through Expedia I had to go through them, although I had actually booked through hotels.com and I am currently pursuing a complaint there. Interestingly hotels.com have telephoned but not been able to get someone in authority. Over a week later I still have the bite marks as they are taking a long time to get better, and my doctor prescribed an antibiotic as a precaution after examining them. This is clearly not an allergic reaction, especially when I have never had such a reaction before.
Even without this potential health issue, the rooms in this hotel are tiny. It was cramped with just one person in the room, and I had to keep moving my suitcase to get around and there's very little space for clothes. Couples will be constantly getting in each other;s way. There was no air conditioning and the room was like an oven, with only a fan to help. While the outside temperatures were warm, the second day they dropped by 10 degrees centigrade, but the room was still too hot with only high tilting windows to open, which you had to do with a pole. The curtains had been half puled off the window, but when I told reception about this after I'd checked in and as I was leaving to explore, nothing was done about them at all. There's no safe, so unless you trust hotel staff you have to carry all your valuables with you. There's no lift so you have to struggle up to your room with your suitcase yourself, even to the 5th floor, and the stairs are all misaligned and often you feel like you're falling backward when trying to go up them, even though they are a concrete/cement stair so can't be excused as being an old wooden staircase.
