“Great location, but sleep at the back”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2012

The hotel is in a great location, just off the main street where you can walk to a square to eat or drink, or get trams to almost anywhere locally. The hotel itself is clean, but quite small (as are most buildings in Amsterdam), and for our first night, the receptionist said she had moved us to a 'better room' as the original one allocated was small. The room we moved to was at the front on the third floor (no lift) and after finally getting to sleep at around 5:30am, decided we'd either have to move rooms or hotel to survive the rest of the week. Her attitude changed quickly when we asked to move rooms 'I've moved you once already' although we hadn't asked to be moved originally. Eventually after much huffing and puffing, we moved to a room at the back and had 4 peaceful nights sleep.

But, the rooms are tiny, room for just a double bed, and a single wardrobe. No cupboards or storage space at all, nor drink facilities. En suite is good. Can't comment on food as we ate out.

To sum up, great location, clean, comfortable but small rooms, but make sure you ask for a room at the rear of hotel if you want to sleep.

My boyfriend and i stayed here for 3 nights 9th of October. we had a room on the first floor, 106, it was at the back of the hotel, i found the room to be spacious enough for the time we stayed there.

things that could be improved on / make the stay better:
Hand towels in the bathroom, another mirror other than the one in the bathroom,
the card door swipe didn't work so they gave us a key, but they asked us to hand the key back in every time we went out....this turned out to be a pain, on one occasion the lady on reception wouldn't get off the phone to give us the key and we ended up standing there for 5 mins waiting...(slightly annoying when you need the loo!) Hot water wasn't that hot.

Things we liked:
The style of the room, it was clean, quiet, had a table & chairs, flat screen tv, large very comfortable bed, close to the tram stop, bars, restaurants etc.

I've stayed in a few hotels in Amsterdam, i would recommend this one to anyone looking for a cheap getaway, i would stay there again too. it cost £70 per night, a lot of other rooms i looked at for the same price had a shared bathroom. this had its own large bathroom, large comfy bed, was quiet, clean and close to everything!

Overall you could do a lot worse for the money and i will be booking Acostar next time i visit!

Room Tip: room 106. Quiet, windows opened, large bed and shower

the location, for sure, is great, not far, 1/2 minutes walk from the tramway
the staff is really nice and helpfull
but the rooms are really too small, and have no great facilities. When u have open your luggage, there is no more possibility to move. The bathroom is clean, but less than standard. I cannot see how 2 persons could share the bathroom
some rooms are on the street, even with double windows, it still is not great
some are on the garden, view is ugly, but room is so calm
a + : free wifi, free breakfast with a buffet
perfect for one night
not so great for a longer stay

Thoroughly enjoyed our stayed in Amsterdam and it was definately enhanced by the great location of this hotel. Check in and out was super quick and easy. Staff were friendly and always greeted you morning and night. Room was simple, super comfortable bed and great pillows, tastefully renovated bathroom with fresh towels each day.

Loved our room on the top floor for the angled windows that opened out to the nights sky. Beware - you will probably get captivated by the delicious smells wafting in from the pub next door (best ribs we have ever eaten!!!)

We were prepared for the hike upstairs with our backpacks as there is not elevator - fine for us young fit ones but if you are older with suitcases, it might be more difficult.

Loved it and will definately be bringing our friends back!

Although small and simply furnished, the room was clean and perfectly adequate for the price. The hotel is in a nice area with lots of shops, cafes and bars nearby. There is a tram stop at the end of the road and most of the major sights are within a 20 minute walk.

This place won't exactly blow you way, but if you're looking for a clean, comfortable base for exploring Amsterdam then it's a solid choice.

found the hotel to be basic but adequate ,stayed for 3 days and had a room at the back witch was quiet we weren,t bothered by noise at all.breakfast was included, again very simple but good .the area was great, everything close by.we would definately stay here again ,as they say you get what you pay for and this was a very good price.we had a good laugh at the wardrobe it was about 8 inchs deep by 18 inchs wide very funny

Room Tip: ask for room at the back of hotel apparently it can be noisy at the front
