“Average hotel in good location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2012

Although small and simply furnished, the room was clean and perfectly adequate for the price. The hotel is in a nice area with lots of shops, cafes and bars nearby. There is a tram stop at the end of the road and most of the major sights are within a 20 minute walk.

This place won't exactly blow you way, but if you're looking for a clean, comfortable base for exploring Amsterdam then it's a solid choice.

found the hotel to be basic but adequate ,stayed for 3 days and had a room at the back witch was quiet we weren,t bothered by noise at all.breakfast was included, again very simple but good .the area was great, everything close by.we would definately stay here again ,as they say you get what you pay for and this was a very good price.we had a good laugh at the wardrobe it was about 8 inchs deep by 18 inchs wide very funny

Room Tip: ask for room at the back of hotel apparently it can be noisy at the front

People love to complain, and many of these posts must be from inexperienced travellers. Amsterdam is an expensive city, and much of their hotel stock is old and dodgy. If you don't spend the money, you will get what you pay for in this city.

Acostar Hotel was absolutely stellar. Service was outstanding, rooms were very clean and well-designed, and bathrooms were spotless. Rooms were average size for Europe, but were perfect for 2 people. Beds are comfortable and duvets blush. Wi-Fi access in rooms and luggage storage included. Remember to bring your own body wash & shampoo.

Location, location, location! One block from Leidseplein, which means you have over 50 bars, restaurants, and coffeeshops next door. Supermarket and currency exchange only 3 blocks away. Located on Tram 1-2-5 which all lead to Amsterdam CS (train station) and Dam square/Red Light District. All in all, a simple yet outstanding hotel and with great value.

I really can't recommend this hotel, the only advantages are that it's close to the stores and next to a coffeeshop.
The stairs to get to higher levels was crooked and dangerous because the steps pointed downwards.

The room was very small, and WAY too hot, I looked around for a window but there wasn't anything I could find that would open, so I was sweating like crazy the whole time!

The walls between rooms are also very thin, and we could hear everything from the rooms around us (including an agressive English couple).

Seriously, just stay away from here if it's hot or if you're planning on staying more than one night.

Great location in the city centre but the hotel rooms are very small and basic. We also found that the rooms were not as clean as it could/should be. Overall fine experience but quite expensive for what is offered.

"We'll only be sleeping here," we said, consoling ourselves when we discovered how small, hot and un-air-conditioned our room was. Famous last words. Do not, under any circumstances, accept a room at the front of this hotel. The noise on night one was unbearable, the heat horrible. But, and a massive thankyou to the departing guests in 206 who left us their fan, with earplugs and fan at the ready we were prepared. But we'd reckoned without the club across the road. Waves of loud, and I mean loud enough to vibrate throughout the room, music rendered earplugs useless. If we'd had another night booked I'd have happily paid for anywhere else to get a night's sleep.

Room Tip: If, and I do mean if, you choose the Acostar, ask for a room at the back
